I made a suggestion early in this thread when I said the movie industry should build a service or device to stream theatrical releases of movies into people's home. They would make a killing as long as they charged a fair amount.

What's protected under law is the intellectual property contained in any media format, whether it's film or music. The problems arose when with the mp3, people didn't just share with a few friends like a cassette or CD burn, but with anyone on the entire planet that had an internet connection. Do not understand the implications? |

wouldnt be a bad idea. Most have the carriers to bring that into the home... Only thing is could they keep the price reasonable and keep it encrypted enough to keep people from saving it and redistribute it?

That I didnt know, thanks for the heads up. Yes I know when the digital format hit the market it opened up a whole new problem for all the industries including software industries. Which is a whole different but same issue as this. Software piracy is beyond out of control..... |

They would have to work with the ISP's to help build a bigger infrastructure and yes probably need to encrypt the stream. I think Netflix does that already and probably use some kind timer so you watch it for x number of hours before it destroys itself.

It'll happen once fiber optic networks are fully in place across America. That's really the only way to deal with the bandwidth required. ATT is working towards having an optic network fully capable of doing just this by the end of this decade.

BTW, I can have a normal discussion about this issue. I understand your frustration and sensativity on this issue... No need to take it to a personal level and get this bent out of shape over it...

It's not even a close second to movies and music.
If you're running a business, it's federal law that you have a license for each and every copy of software that's used. There is no such enforcement with music and film. Plus, tons of companies fight piracy successfully with dongles or iLoks. |

Dane, you asked for some great players who've put things out over the last decade.
The first guy who comes to my mind is Ben Folds. He's an amazing piano player and he's also a classically trained percussionist. - John Mayer - some of his songs are cheesey, but the dude can shred. He's an incredible guitarist. - 311 - Tim Mahoney (guitar), Aaron Wills (Bass), Chad Sexton (Drums) - If you want great musicianship, these guys have the chops. If you haven't heard them, you should check them out. You might hate their style, but there's no denying that these guys are ridiculous. - John Fruciante - He's been around since the '80s, but he's still putting out relevant & excellent stuff. - Kings of Leon - I'm sure this isn't what you're thinking of when you say great players like Steve Vai, but the musicianship in this band is top notch. The problem you'll have in trying to find another EVH or Eric Johnson is that stuff is way out of favor these days. It's more about a well written song than some epic guitar shredding. You can likely find that at your local guitar shop. I think a lot of the stuff being put out by Jack White, Wilco, KOL, The Kooks, Beck, Ryan Adams, and several other bands will easily stand the test of time. I know where you're coming from, though. I still think no decade will ever stand up to my fav: Pearl Jam, Counting Crows, Soul Asylum, Nirvana, REM, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. |

I'd imagine that if your business was adversely struck but some nitwit was laughing in your face about it, you'd be pretty pissed off as well. |
