I just throw them whatever I have. No less than 1, and no more than 5.

I've only used a valet once, and I gave the guy a 5 spot.

I would say tipping 2-3 dollars is fine. 5 is the most I'd tip, and honestly I think it's a bit much for a maximum of 5 minutes work. And I always tip. Sometimes I over tip, but I am a firm believer you shouldn't. I'm sure you've noticed we're trending from a 15% expectation to 20%.

They should just do away with tips all together and pay people to do their job not get hand outs.

I don't disagree. Most people don't even know that waiters for instance, in the state of MO used to get paid $2.13 an hour. I think it's up to $4 now, but it's about half of the minimum wage. Even businesses rely on you to pay part of their staff, rather than just building that cost into the prices of their fare.

The cost of paying that person will still be passed on to you one way or another. If you don't like to tip all you have to do is avoid using services which require tipping.

But the cost is already passed on to you in this case. The hotel charges more to park when you use valet.

That's for the cost of the parking garage - not necessarily the attendants.
