Anyone Ever Learn A New Language?

I was considering learning Spanish.

Anyone ever learned a new language? is so, what did you use to learn it? what was your experience? how long did it take to do so?

i took a couple years in high school, but that was a long time ago and i've forgotten much of what i skipped then.

Once again you're wrong.

Read what I wrote, then read what you wrote. You said 'Immigrants should learn english.' That has nothing to do with this at all, and is ****ing plainly obvious...no one denies that.

Even immigrants want to learn english...Everyone is already in agreement that they should learn english.

What you fail to grasp is that is not relevant at all in terms of people who CHOOSE to learn Spanish for whatever reason. For example, say I run a business.....I have a small store....Maybe putting some signs up in Spanish and learning a little spanish will help me increase my business by X percent.....Why shouldn't I learn Spanish?

Your reasoning and logic is that of a child, seriously...

"Them immgrants should lrn enlish"...

Duhhh.....I mean seriously that is your thought process? Well people should lose weight, people should save money, people should excecise more...Theres a lot of things people SHOULD do....

I live in the REAL world though....You obviously are not a business person or anyone who has ever had to live in a place with different cultures....

You saying people shouldn't learn Spanish because immigrants should learn english is a very simple minded point of view....But thats OK because most people are simple. Thats why other people are in business for themselves and making money off of them instead of sitting around crying about it like you.

Again, the thread starter admits that he wants to learn Spanish because he deals with non-English speaking immigrants at work. My only point is that many immigrants from Latin America don't speak English and that it seems that THEY should adjust to US and not vice versa.

IS this too difficult for you to grasp or something?

Oh, and I was born and raised in Europe.

A) They should adjust to the US......No one disagrees with that.

B) Learning spanish to communicate, go to restraunts, **** a latina hotty, watch a film, do whatever, make more money, etc... is not a bad thing and actually has nothing to do with A

Is that hard for you to grasp?

You keep getting hung up on point A, when no one is even arguing it. If you were born and raised in Europe you must be a grandfather because the way you are stuck in your attitude smacks of like 50 years ago.

Damn it. Ya know, I took pride in my ability to refrain from interacting in DC-type threads. But now this one is destined to end up there... all thanks to Donger.

Wow. Okay, I'll dumb it down a bit....

THE fuckING THREAD STARTER ADMITS THAT HE WANTS TO LEARN SPANISH SO THAT HE CAN COMMUNICATE WITH THE NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING IMMIGRANTS HE WORKS WITH. THEREFORE, IN THIS EXAMPLE, A MOST CERTAINLY HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH B.

I have no issue whatsoever with anyone WANTING to learn a foreign language. But, I most certainly do when an American working in the public sector HAS TO learn Spanish in order to succeed (or keep) their job.

Been here for about 3 years now, and would say I am still learning Latin American Spanish (have tried the programs and all that, but they teach you Spanish of Spain, while similar, very different).

I was actually referring to a school teacher friend of my wife who was recently told that she had to learn Spanish or leave when writing the HAS TO part. And, no, she doesn't technically have to learn. She can find a different job.

Do you think that is fair to her?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but how does this statement indicate that Sofa King NEEDS to learn Spanish? He just mentioned that it would be nice if he could actually communicate with them.

I create commercial business graphics and I don't NEED to know how to create a pdf, but it would be nice to know how if it helps me in my field. Correct? How is that any different from Sofa King's statement?
