QB Class Starting to Look Like S&@* - Page 12

Anyone else disappointed with the way this QB class is starting to pan out after looking very promising?

Newton has gone Hollywood
Gabbert is scared to throw at the combine
Locker went to hell as a Senior
Mallett being the 2nd coming of Ryan Leaf

Ponder is starting to look like the prize QB in this draft to me at this point.

not physically...I don't know enough about him yet...but the clips I saw and the way they said he OWNED the media part is something all great QB's do...and then when I saw him making throws...he was accurate as hell...and he just LOOKS the part.

and he graduated in 2.5 years with an impressive degree and seems to have a real good head on his shoulders

it's a pipe dream, and he probably will never amount to anything...

but right now he seems like a Pioli guy and that would be ok with me...even if #21 is a "reach"

I'm a big fan of Ponder.

I think he has the mental makeup that all great QBs have, that indefinable "it".

But I wouldn't take him at 21.

If he's there in the 2nd, he'd be the guy.

I have yet so see anyone say Gabbert is in the same class as Bradford, Ryan, or Stafford other then our resident QB guru Hamas Jenkins. Mayock ever referred to him as a "project".

He is a project. You wouldn't want him to start his first year. But once you tweak his footwork, and get him acclimated to an NFL offense, he has an upside higher than any one of those guys, save for Stafford, and even then, it's equal.

There's a number of teams that need a QB.

Someone is going to take Newton in the first, more than likely in the top 10.

He has too much physical ability to fall into the second.

Lots of teams need a QB upgrade: Carolina, Buffalo, Cincy (depending on Palmer), Washington, AZ, SF, Jax, Miami, TN, Min and Seattle.

I think there will be a run on QBs - Gabbert, Newton, Ponder and Locker. Someone else might move up to grab Mallett because they are enamored with arm strength.

I think Ryan has the highest upside, but the thing you have to remember is sometimes a QB is the whole of a QB is greater then the sum of his parts. Montana for example wouldn't be a guy that ever graded out extremely highly in a combine type atomosphere. Sometime guys have the tools, like Tim Couch, but just never quite put it together for whatever reason which is why I like to see a little more success out of a QB like Gabbert in college. You can only put so much on players around him. Ryan did a pretty damn good job with the crap they put around him at BC.

I think you are probably giving a little more credit then he deserves do to being an MU fan. If MU starts producing top of the line talent over a decade or so(like they have the last 3 years) you will be a little more critical of their NFL prospects I predict.

The NFL is so much into character these days especially at QB. I can't remember the last QB taken in the 1st round that had so many red flag character issues coming out. Leaf maybe?

Ridiculous. If his upside was that high the Panthers would be all over him, and Buffalo and AZ would be trying to move up to grab him.

This isn't Jimmy Clausen or Colt McCoy.

This is a guy with athletic ability, size, and far better mechanics than Vince Young coming out.

Physically, he's one of the top 3 QBs in this draft.

So is Mallett I doubt a team risk a fat contract and 1st round pick on such unstable guys. Coaches don't want to have to deal with the off the field crap these guys bring. Kaepernick brings what Newton does minus the baggage.

And Kaepernick is half the QB.

Newton is unquestionably going to be drafted in the first. You think teams are going to reach for Kaepernick in the first? If not, then your whole theory of Kaepernick being drafted before Newton is reeruned.
