Which is why the key is to use Orton to prove that Cassel was the problem. I do believe that Orton comes with much less of a smoochy-smooch "we will keep you around because Pioli loves you" type of baggage.

This wasn't a 89 mph slider with incredible bite. Pioli watched this scrub for years against other NFL players and decided that he should be our starting QB, in a move that Carl himself would applaud.

Cassel got 1 year. In that year he put up good numbers. The rest of the time he was holding a clip board.

Pioli took a shot because the Chiefs needed a QB and it was obvious NE wasn't going to be able to keep Cassel. It hasn't worked out the way anyone hoped.

I think it's a very fair point that the Chiefs were bad at a really, really, really shitty time. Probably some of the worst string of QB classes in consecutive years.

Who said anything about giving him a pass, you idiot?

He doesn't deserve a pass for the QB but he also doesn't deserve heat for the QB. Name a QB that would put the Chiefs in a better position today that was available when we traded for Cassel.
