This wasn't a 89 mph slider with incredible bite. Pioli watched this scrub for years against other NFL players and decided that he should be our starting QB, in a move that Carl himself would applaud.

Cassel got 1 year. In that year he put up good numbers. The rest of the time he was holding a clip board.

Pioli took a shot because the Chiefs needed a QB and it was obvious NE wasn't going to be able to keep Cassel. It hasn't worked out the way anyone hoped.

So, Cassel wasn't allowed to practice his first three years in NE?

Pioli acquired Cassel and subsequently signed him to an extension because he thought he was good. And he was wrong in a disconcertingly big way.
