That's done. The die has been cast there. Like I said, Geno Smith is still the guy to go get, but you're still making a really shitty argument here. Harbaugh recognized an absurdly talented QB was available for him in the 2nd round and he aggressively moved to go get him. It was a great decision and it has made them contenders. We should do the same. But that's the only real takeaway there is to bring from Keapernick ahead of Alex Smith. Colin Kaepernick is more talented than Alex Smith...duh, the end. He's more talented than all but about 5 guys in the leauge.

This isn't just about the 49ers, it's about the market. The market spoke to Alex Smith, and they told him to **** off. Even if Kaepernick is Christ reincarnate, I'm pretty damned sure there aren't 32 of him. Harbaugh made a bold move by moving up for Kaepernick. It's obvious he liked him, and didn't like Smith, but he obviously didn't like him enough last offseason to fully commit to him, because they went hard after Manning and when they didn't sign him they offered Smith a contract. He also got really ****ing lucky by Kaepernick ending up being far better far sooner than what he expected.

Spin it, massage it, tweak it all you want. The Chiefs would be acquiring a descending player to be their starter. That's a fact.

He's 29 when the season starts. QBs maintain their peak levels through about 33 so that's about 5 years of Smith being as good as he's going to be. He's not descending, he just is what he is. The problem with Matt Cassel was not that he was 'old', it was that he was shitty. Alex Smith, over his last 40 games as a starter in this league, has been at worst an adequate NFL quarterback. There's no reason to believe that his next 5 seasons in this league will be any different. You're not making any sense at all.

Who the hell said anything about Alex Smith being "so damn good"? He's adequate. The end. Did I say he was a ****ing star? No, no I did not. I said that if you take his 2 years under a dipshit of a coach and improve them by 10% due to being trained by a very smart QB guy, he can be an 88 rated passer which is passable What is inaccurate about that? Why is it beyond the realm of possibility that a 25 yr old kid with an idiot head coach has actually improved? And that with even marginal improvement, he's now an adequate NFL quarterback? Not "so damn good". Not "more talented than one of the 5 most physically gifted QBs in the league", but ****ing competent - nothing more, nothing less. Jesus - ****ing read and when you're done reading, address the statements actually raised and not the argument you keep wanting to have - that evidently some of us believe that Alex Smith is a 14 game winning, SB caliber QB that will raise the level of his teammates and ****ing cure cancer. Y'know what - never****ingmind. I know why Dane lost his shit - none of you people bother paying attention to anything. You know what you know and by God, that's all there is to it. If someone dares suggest that someone is merely average, you lunatics lose your goddamn minds. Go back to calling a former first overall pick that took his team to within a fumbled punt of the Super Bowl Matt Goddamn Cassel. None of you are paying attention to anything anyone else has to say anyway.

Alex Smith played six games a year against one of of the worst divisions in NFL history for much of his career and, by your own admission, never registered above adequate.
Look how the Panthers made Quinn look this year. Smith got that six times per year. He also had tremendous offensive lines in 2010 and 2011, and to be honest, he's always had decent to very good defenses. He's always had Frank Gore as a security blanket, and, recently, an emerging group of receivers.
