2014 East West Shrine Bowl

If you had a chance to view game, would be interested in your observations.

Some players that looked good -

RT - Matt Hall – 6’10”, 320 – Belhaven (MS) – # 76 on East Team white uniforms - looked very good in pass protection. Had a couple of opportunities to get down field and block on run plays and made the block. Could see KC use their last 6th round pick on him or possibly sign him as a college free agent. Looks in shape but could put on a few pounds and gain strength. He is originally from Russellville, Arkansas. He played in 11 games in 2009 for Arkansas. He then started for Ole Miss in 2011 at right guard. I have no idea why all of the changing schools. NFLDraftScout.com has him as a 7th round or FA pick.

G/OL – Dakota Dozier – 6’4”, 291 – Furman - #79 West Team Blue Jerseys – always held his ground well in pass protection. During the game, didn’t really see him get out down field and block. Mike Mayock on the game broadcast said he watched him a couple of days in practice and was very impressed. Nfldraftscout.com projects him as a 4th round pick at guard. From that site - 01/18/14 - PROSPECTS WHO HELPED THEMSELVES AT THE SHRINE GAME: 7.
OL Dakota Dozier, Furman (6-4, 312, 5.20, #78)...A college left tackle, Dozier arrived in St. Petersburg and was moved to guard, but the transition went smooth as if he's been playing inside for years. He looked quick, balanced and controlled in his movements with the base strength and awareness to hold his ground and pick up extra blitzers. Dozier surfaced as the top offensive line prospect this week and is a darkhorse top-100 prospect. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com

QB Jimmy Garoppolo – 6’3”, 222, Eastern Illinois - Best looking quarterback in the game. We will also see him in the Senior Bowl. Each side used 3 QBs so really only saw him in a limited amount of time. He had over a 100 yards and a TD. He was 9 of 10 at one time in the game. He did not play until the 2nd quarter.

CB – Ricardo Allen – 5’9”, 186 – Purdue – #21 East Team - Shrine Bowl rules limits coverage but Allen looked pretty good with stepping up and making tackles. He got beat once deep in the end zone, but recovered enough to help receiver drop the ball. Also had several nice punt returns in the game. Allen was a four year starter at Purdue. Size not ideal but could be a nice nickel. Nfldraftscout.com projects him as a 5th or 6th round pick.

CBs - Ross Cockrell – 6’0”, 190 – Duke #26 and Phillip Gaines – 6’1”, 185 –Rice #15 – also looked good in coverage and tackling. Both were playing for the East team, white jerseys.

CB – Pierre Desir – 6’2”, 206 – Lindenwood –# 3 East Team - Did not look good. Some have him as a 2nd day pick but he looked very rough in this game not staying with his man and making poor tackles.

DE – Ethan Westbrooks – 6’4”, 263 – West Texas A & M - #99 East Team – Looked very good in pass rush and made several tackles. Was game MVP on defense.

TE – Jordan Najvar – 6’6”, 255 – Baylor – Had a nice catch on a slant pass going across the middle where he had to lay out to catch it.

WR – Chandler Jones – 5’11”, 175 – San Jose #89 West Team, Bernard Reedy – 5’9”, 175 – Toledo #6 West Team, and Jeremy Gallon – 5’8”, 187 – Michigan #80 East Team. Each had several good catches. Since none of these guys are very big they would be slot receivers and probably late round or college free agents. Gallon was very productive at Michigan and if KC is unable to keep Dexter McCluster because of money, might be a low cost option for them.

Safety - Alden Darby – 5’11”, 195 – Arizona State - #3 West Team Blue jersey – Played SS in college but they moved him to FS for the game. Looked pretty good and had 2 interceptions. Nfldraftscout.com says he would be a 6th round pick.
