He came back in, but this is evidence of the problem. There is a certain discrepancy with our defense vs. the top defenses in the AFC.
If JuJu receives a ball across the middle, there is a safety there, and he gets popped. If WRs for, say, the Bengals get the ball across the middle, Juan Thornhill is there. And he'll graze them, or whiff at them, or take wasted motion before trying to wrangle them in. He's in position; he's right there to pop them, but he doesn't. There's no "tax" to attacking us across the middle. There's no penalty. Teams don't worry about it. Hopefully as the seasons go by, and Cook replaced Thornhill in the role, there will be a tax to pay. But right now there isn't, and it's allowing the best QBs to attack us there with impunity. |
