Adventures in Computer Land
Lo the fan did whine, but it's location could not be found. Boldly our hero set upon his quest to determine the offending device within his PC case. Extracting the CPU fan was a necessary evil, as it had to be tested independently of the other systems. Cracking open an extraneous PC, our noble gallant did scavenge power and ascertained that this cooler was without wail. Boldened by his discovery, our fearless luminary logically found that the power supply was the delinquent contraption. It would be summarily replaced.
Reinstallation of the now benign CPU fan was completed, and power was restored. But hark! A dragon did strike from the darkness! A cyber-hellion did manifest itself! "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair." Fear seized the virtual swashbuckler. He had not touched the hard drive! What was this new devilry? His stomach in knots, our exemplar dove once again into the mechanical guts of his digital steed. A light was cast downward, throwing eerie shadows amongst the power cables. A stray IDE cable appeared to be the culprit. It was hastily fastened and once again the moment of truth was at hand. Power surged once again, and the logo of the one they call "Gates" flashed. A disaster had been averted. Ride on, splendid champion! |
