Trent Green Q&A - June 21, 2001
One what it means to potentially lose Sylvester Morris to injury: "It’s a huge loss. Sylvester’s had a great offseason. He’s really picked up the offense well and he had a good understanding of what’s going on. It’s something that I’ve been through, I’ve been through a knee injury. I’m going to be in Sylvester’s ear from today on to get him to continue to work hard. I think it is as tough mentally as it is physically. You come in day after day and you’re doing the rehab thing and you’re grinding away and there’s some days that you just don’t feel like doing it and those are the days that you have to work your hardest. I’m going to be in his ear and try and stay on top of it because I plan on connecting with him, obviously it’s not going to be this year, but I plan on connecting with him for many years to come." On who best fits into Sylvester’s role: "We have a lot of guys who are playing a number of different positions. Larry Parker has done really well and they have him trying out two or three different wide receiver spots. Snoop [Minnis] has stepped up and played well when given the chance. They worked him in there today. I think those are the two guys that are front-running at that "X" position. And then there will be more people who will come forward because we do two, three and four wide receiver sets and so right now its hard to ask a guy to learn a new position and then all of a sudden somebody gets hurt and you have to learn another position. So in this offense you have to know how to play a number of different wide receiver positions. So that’s going to be hard to find somebody to fill that void and when they do it’s just a matter of adjusting your top four or five guys and getting them in the right spots." On the impression he made on his teammates: "Hopefully, it sends a message to the other guys on the offense. They get a chance to see me a little bit. It’s one thing to throw routes against the air. The lineman haven’t really seen me much, the tight ends and backs haven’t seen much so, hopefully, the last couple of days I’ve been able to make some impressions." On what he will be doing until training camp: "We’ll be here. I’ll be rehabbing. My family is moving next week. We found a home here and we’ll be moving here to Kansas City next week. My commitment is to this team and doing whatever we can to win, so I’ll be here until training camp just working on my knee. I’ve got guys lined up to come in and throw and we’ll just continue making progress toward the season."
|
