Get ready for ‘fun’ Bengals’ Johnson guarantees celebration if he scores a touchdown against Chiefs By ELIZABETH MERRILL The Kansas City Star It probably won’t involve live animals or a marriage proposal, but Chad Johnson says he’ll have something cooked up if he scores a touchdown Sunday against the Chiefs. “Let me see, Arrowhead seats 75,000, right?” Johnson said Wednesday. “Well, I’m going to think hard and think of something to please 75,000 people who are not supposed to be on my side. I can’t give you a hint, but I’m sure they’ll all like it.” Johnson, a Pro Bowl receiver for the Bengals, has celebrated touchdowns with everything from a Riverdance to a pylon putt. In the days before last week’s Buffalo game, he suggested he would incorporate a deer into his act. “I don’t know where he went,” Johnson said. “I was waiting for him to come out. He never did.” Johnson is viewed throughout the NFL as more playful than disrespectful because he doesn’t taunt. He said Wednesday that he wouldn’t do a touchdown dunk, a la Tony Gonzalez, because he would never degrade another player’s celebration. Two years ago, he drew Chiefs’ fans ire when he guaranteed the Bengals would beat a 9-0 Kansas City team. They pulled off the upset, but Johnson said he wouldn’t make a prediction for Sunday. There was no need to, he said. “Even though I’m the opponent, I love them also,” Johnson said, referring to Chiefs’ fans. “And I do play for everybody. “I’m fun. You guys know. You don’t get to see me, but you hear everything I say all the time every week. Everything is positive. Everything is in a fun-natured way. And you know exactly where I’m coming from. If you don’t know (No.) 85, if you don’t know Chad Johnson, you can get a feel somewhat of how he is, and you all know he’s somebody who wants to have fun and that’s all I do.” Last month after he scored a touchdown against the Colts, he found a Bengals cheerleader, got down on a knee, and asked her to marry him. On Wednesday, he was asked if he’d set a date with the cheerleader. “Actually,” Johnson said, “she left me.” |
