I work with a purchasing agent that is a ‘Nam vet, Staff Sargent Infantry. Worked with him for over 6 years before I ever knew he was a vet. Then one day he drops a couple of stories on an old crusty engineer and myself that left us both slack jawed and stunned.
Great guy, haven’t heard much about his service since that day, and no one else around even knows he’s a vet.

My old man was there and you'll never hear a word about it, he tries to act like it never happened.
