"The Chiefs wasted that timeout. With simple clock mismanagement, the Chiefs cost the offense 40 seconds. In the NFL, 40 seconds is like a reprieve from the governor. Tuesday, it got much worse. You know I love Gunther, but the guy stood up at his press conference and defended that revolting timeout. He said, "With the 45-second clock, I figured they weren't going to run another play (before the 2-minute warning)." Yep, that makes perfect sense except THE NFL HAS A 40-SECOND CLOCK. Everybody knows that. Small children know that. Certain breeds of dog know that. "The players were confused... we explained it to them," Cunningham said. Who was confused? And exactly what did they explain? That nobody on the sidelines can add or subtract? That the coaches cost them the game? It was the single dumbest play of the season. Dumber than Grbac throwing the ball short of the end zone. Dumber than Chester McGlockton jumping offside. Dumber than not going for two in San Diego." <BR> |
