Crazy Deadspin Article: ESPN Columnist "Sarah Phillips" Scamming People Online
This story broke yesterday and is blowing up.
First Deadspin article here: http://deadspin.com/5906658/is-an-es...n-the-internet and follow-up from last night/this morning is here: http://deadspin.com/5906849/sarah-ph...h-who-to-trust Cliffnotes: - ESPN hired a columnist for their website named Sarah Phillips. She got her start as a message board poster on a sports gambling website, and then began writing columns on said site. - ESPN hired her without even meeting her in person. - Various people have come forward that she has scammed them out of their facebook and twitter feeds, and is using them to direct traffic to her own websites to increase advertising revenue, attention, etc. She supposedly worked with some other guys on this scam who claimed they worked for ESPN, but never did. - Additional research has uncovered that "Sarah Phillips" has used at least 5-6 different pictures over the last year or so that she has claimed is her. Many are now questioning if "Sarah Phillips" even exists, and if ESPN got trolled by a rich Nigerian-type scam. |
