This is not the first time...

For those of you who are not long time Chiefs fans, there was another tragic murder-suicide back in 1980 involving a Chiefs player. Jim Tyrer, who was an All-Pro tackle for the Chiefs, played his last game in KC in 1973. In 1980, he was having serious money troubles, and shot his wife dead, then killed himself, in his KC home with all four of his kids in the house.

That was very shocking in 1980. Tyrer wasn't an active player when he did this, but he was one of the Chiefs solid building block players, kind of like Will Shields or Tim Grunhard during his era. He protected Len Dawson's blind side.
