Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D....this fall on ABC

Josh Whedon is involved. I'm in!

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...-agents-520903

It's official: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on the air at ABC.
The Joss Whedon drama based on the Marvel Comics property has landed a series order at the Disney-owned network, ABC announced Friday.

The ABC Studios project is based on Marvel Comics' secret intelligence organization that has appeared in countless titles, including Iron Man, Captain America and The Ultimates, since being introduced in the 1960s. The military law-enforcement agency's moniker stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistic Directorate, which also has evolved over time in the comics.

Whedon is on board to co-pen the pilot alongside his brother Jed Whedon and Jed's wife, Maurissa Tancharoen; the trio previously teamed on the three-part web series Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Avengers and Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind Whedon directed the pilot, which has had ABC social media accounts for months. S.H.I.E.L.D. is executive produced by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb.

ER's Ming-Na stars as Agent Melinda May, The Avengers' Clark Gregg reprises his role as Agent Phil Coulson, Killing Lincoln's Brett Dalton is set as gruff rising star Agent Grant Ward, Elizabeth Henstridge as science whiz Agent Gemma Simmons and Iain DeCaestecker as tech guru Agent Leo Fitz, with Nashville's Chloe Bennet set as Skye, a superhero-obsessed woman.
Since the project was first announced in August, it has been a clear front-runner to land on ABC's 2013-14 schedule. ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee told reporters in January that the project was being fast-tracked and he was "very hopeful" that the entry with a "great script" would go

"Marvel has the ability to bring the whole family around it," Lee said at the time. "Joss has great relationships around it. There's a lot of real funny male-female relationships and flirtations, but it's also Joss and Marvel, so there's a lot of action to it."

"My boss Bob Iger buys Marvel, and how wonderful is it for ABC to be able to use the core talent from that and not use the Marvel brand but the Avengers franchise for a show that is not exactly about the Avengers but is attached to it?" Lee said, noting that Whedon was already working on scripts at the time.

ABC will start a major marketing push for the high-profile project with a sizable built-in fan base Sunday, May 12, airing a first look at 8 p.m. ahead of the season finale of Once Upon a Time.

Dark yes, but the acting is so wooden it just seems cheesy. The assistant is the only one with any humor, and while I like the attempts and the jokes, they just don't seem to be delivered very well. I liked season 1, but season 2 has been a bit of a letdown for me. It just seems to take itself too seriously. There is no way in hell I would equate the execution of Arrow's darker theme to the execution by Nolan.

No ****ing way. The content matter definitely is, but the execution just seems amateurish.

SHIELD on the other hand, doesn't take itself so seriously, which means neither do I. It has a bit of a muted Chuck flair, and I loved that show. To be honest, the acting in this show hasn't been the greatest either (Ward sucks), but there are enough other characters that we're not so focused on a main character that doesn't seem to have any emotion beyond brooding.

I guess you could say I like SHIELD better because my expectations are being met. It's a lighthearted comic book style, which really isn't that hard to pull off. Arrow is disappointing to me, because my expectations are higher. A darker, more epic theme just needs better execution to pull off or it seems forced. The SHIELD lends itself towards a serialized cartoony style story, whereas Arrow seems to be trying too hard for a an epic story telling.

I've liked Arrow season 2 as much or more than season 1. Amell is wooden on purpose.

Ward is getting better on SHIELD. I think part of the plan has been to humanize him slowly. All the focus has been on turning Skye into a team player, but it's been the same thing for him. I thought the last ep was big for that.

Ward has gotten better, and it does seem like the last few episodes have mostly been about building character relationships.

As far as Ollie goes, he may be wooden on purpose, which might fit the character they are trying to have him portray. A vigilante Spock just doesn't hold my interest though. Also, when they cut to flashbacks, he still seems very wooden and forced. In these scenes, he should have been more "normal". Then again, maybe I just can't get past how horrible his wig looks!

Breaking Bad's first two seasons were very dark, slow dramas. Unlike Mad Men, I don't like or relate to any of the characters. With Mad Men, I'm just old enough to remember visiting my Dad's office in the late 60's and early 70's to recognize the decorum and overall workplace environment, along with the remembrances of historical events.

With BB, I got nothing, other than the promise that it's an amazing program.

Oh, and I must add that Netflix streaming service, in my experience, is poor. The picture quality is poor, streaming frequently bottle necks and even changing the settings in my account haven't helped. Compared to Amazon Prime's streaming, which has been nothing short of excellent, I give Netflix a D overall.
I'm in about week 3 of my free month on Netflix, and the streaming has been top notch. No issues whatsoever. Go figure.

Good info. Thanks.

I've got Prime under CPs advice for baby stuff, and have begun watching several series', but I understand that Netflix has more options for series. I have a buddy that I watch a lot of shit with and we've been trying to split the cost of seasons and movies and watch them together as our bro-hang out time. Anyway, we've been considering him getting netflix and me keeping prime and getting each others logons and splitting the cost.

He had it a couple years ago and it worked pretty well through my TV, but if the stream quality isn't good, then it may not be a good deal.

I have a fast internet connection, like 21 Mbps, so I shouldn't have any issues. Maybe it's population density but I really didn't like Netflix's message of "try later!" if streaming is poor. I'm usually not watching until 10pm PST, so any later is next to impossible.

Hopefully, you won't have the same issue.

I don't know who your provider is, but there has been a lot of discussion about ISPs intentionally downgrading Netflix traffic. I do wish they had more HD content, but I've been pretty happy with the service.

Time Warner Cable.

Again, no issues with any other streaming, including Amazon Prime.

I know that TWC and Netflix are supposedly negotiating over letting Netflix drop servers directly on the TWC backbone. Probably be a while though.

Well hopefully, it's just an issue on my end with TWC internet.

I doubt I keep it beyond the free month.

Yeah, I'm on a free month of Aereo, and doubt I'll keep it for the same reasons.

Sky is just the worst. She has already tried to **** SHIELD over before, then throws a fit when she doesnt have clearance. Just lame. They should have made simmons go splat after jumping out the plane. Then, Ward could have been upset that he didnt save her and add some sort of depth to his character.

Fitz had some nice moments last episode. The pilot has completely been underused after a nice build up. And coulson is just not making sense now.

Thats odd. We have never had a problem with it at all.

I really liked Season 2. I thought it was pretty strong. But yea, it truly picked up momentum in season 3. Great show.
