He'll be 27 in a couple weeks.

A the start of the 2016 season he'll be a few months from 30.

He could still be great, but chances are he won't be the same as he is now.
At age 30, even the great ones seem to go downhill fast. There are a few who have run for 1000 yards at age 30, but not many.

And what if Knile Davis looks like a star? No one knows what the situation will be in a couple years.

I was wondering about the Knile situation too. Dude looks promising, but I didn't want to piss off everyone with the idea of "replacing" Charles with Davis. I feel like this thread has already pissed off enough people with me just asking.

What? Now? **** no. I'd have Charles on every ****ing snap if he didn't need a break every now and then. I'm talking a few years down the line. But no one can predict what will happen then.

I hope Charles has 5 1000+ yard seasons left, but history shows it just doesn't happen very often. These RBs lose a 1/2 step and it's over.

We're all high on Charles today, but in two years if he starts averaging 3 yards a carry, people will be screaming for Davis. Just the way it is...

I can only think of a couple of RB's that looked good after they hit 30.....Barry Sanders and Marcus Allen. I am sure there are more but those 2 come to mind immediately.

But your point is correct....after 30 most of the backs have taken such a pounding that they either slow down or are more injury prone.

Jamaal signed a really conservative contract even after having a borderline MVP year. I don't see him as a guy who is going to be unreasonable about money.

Tiki Barber rushed for 1800 yards at the age of 30, 1600 at 31 and retired.

Charles hasn't taken a load of damage. He hasn't had a season where we road him 'til he dies.
