There are legitimate arguments against some on that list. Movies like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings dip into genres that some people will have no interest in. Although if you're a fan of movies you're doing yourself an injustice by avoiding them.
And why is Inception on that list?

In THAT era, movies like that were groundbreaking pieces of art. If you try to look at movies from that time you are looking at them through the eyes of this generation. To me movies like The Grapes of Wrath, 12 Angry Men, Casblanca and It's A Wonderful Life are from a generation apart. You have to love old classic movies in B&W to really enjoy them and they aren't everyone's cup of tea. Fast forward this thread 10 years and you will have a generation of people saying how bad and cheesy movies are from this era. |

Taxi Driver (Scorcese's best IMO), the Miyazaki films on that list (Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are both incredible), A Clockwork Orange (so unique, Kubrick in the prime of his career...though, a warning, it is more intense than Silence of the Lambs and Aliens), Oldboy (definitely watch it over Spike Lee's remake, it's another one heavy on violence, though).

Some are certainly more dated than others, of course. Having watched 12 Angry Men just last week again, though, I don't see that as a problem with that one.

That is such a good movie. I started watching it a few weeks ago with my teenagers in the room, they were hooked. My daughter was annoyed with me (in jest) because it forced her off of the internet.

I have that movie in my collection...it honestly transcends the eras because the theme of the movie still resonates today. People and preconceived notions, bigotry and prejudices are just as prevalent today as there were when the movie was first made.
