Android Gbox Midnight MX2
Been eyeing this for awhile now.
Besides the different remote, can somebody tell me what the difference is between these two options? $97 G-Box Midnight MX2 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Dual Core XBMC Streaming Mini HTPC TV Box Player http://www.amazon.com/G-Box-Midnight...s=midnight+mx2 $104 Matricom G-Box MX2 Dual Core XBMC Android 4.2 TV Box + Special Edition XBMC [NEWEST VERSION] http://www.amazon.com/Matricom-G-Box...s=midnight+mx2 The cheaper one seems to be the older one but I really don't see the difference specs wise other than the keyboard remote. Both units were hardware failure issues. Was never even able to get to configure them. Would lock up during boot or 30 seconds after. Don't watch enough TV to make it worth the time or effort. When we were having these problems, just about every other review on Amazon was saying the same thing. And sadly enough, the only support option was some guy on Amazon comments trying to push beta patches to people.
Aereo, Netflix, & Yify cover all my needs. I don't have time to watch all that this stuff anyway!

Honestly, if I were to recommend a XBMC box it would be a NUC when it is on sale, some ram and and USB and run OpenElec. Probably the cheapest, bug free experience you can have with XBMC right now. A patched version for the Ouya is a close second.

This negative talk is really surprising to me considering the overwhelming positive reviews I am finding all over the place on this.

I have no personal experience with those boxes, I can only go by what I read on the XBMC hardware forums. Can those boxes work well? Absolutely. Will they work well out of the box? Hell no. That is up to you to make it happen.
Like I said, as far as plug and play? Ouya for $99 and install SPMC.

I'm very comfortable with android so I am not worried about this box at all. Reviews all over the net make me feel very positive about it.
I'm all about customization. I hack every android product I buy. Hell, I turned the HP Touchpad into an android device and it still rocks on today.

Oh, if that is the case, you'll be fine.

Maybe 6-9 months ago? Getting older, so time passes strangely!
Anyway, everything I read said the problem was based on bad RAM (both a lack of and shitty chips). What's worse was that the only recourse for troubleshooting was the Amazon comment pages. It was the worst troubleshooting experience I've ever had, and I've been in IT for 20 years. My guess is they started shipping new batches with improved memory chips and fixed their firmware (I don't think they were up to 4.2 yet). The potential on these things is/was awesome, but the units I received were far from quality. I'm actually surprised you can't find any bad reviews. When I was troubleshooting there were nothing but complaints about boot failures on Amazon and somebody commenting in every other review "wait for the next patch".

HOLY CRAP. 1channel might have a more convenient setup as far as quick access but putlocker.tv has extremely reliable links and practically every TVshow I watch.

I honestly haven't messed with putlocker.tv yet. That cool huh?
Did you get your box yet, or are you just practicing with the PC version?

on my box now. Just getting everything setup. Was disappointed it didn't have bluetooth but not a big deal.

I just need to figure out if there is a way to access the box via my network from my pc to transfer files to it.

Run that. Add a SSH server. Config so it just runs when app is launched, not all the time. Add a user. Use whatever, but must use name and password. No blanks. Start the SSH server. On computer: If Windows, download WinSCP. If Mac, download Cyberduck. Create SFTP connection using IP of Android. Use credentials from above. Use port from what's listed in running Android SSH server. Connect, and it should give you a side by side file browser that you can use to copy to/from.
