Those players are still valuable, imo. Yeah, you lose a year of cost control, but you don't lose a roster spot. He would be a great reach/pick for a team with a deep roster because you can increase the talent level of your team simply by placing them on the IR for a year, which in turn frees up a roster spot for another talent on your team.
