Building for the future
Chiefs revisit storied past with present pick

Kansas City - With its first pick in the NFL draft, the Chiefs once again dipped into a well that has produced unmatched success for the Kansas City franchise. No stranger to highly powered offenses built around a dominant offensive line, the Chiefs selected star UCLA LG Xavier Su'A Filo with their first pick in the NFL draft.

General Manager John Dorsey could barely contain his glee at landing the talented offensive lineman: "Look, we know that you win with the guys up front. This is a formula that has been successful in KC. Pick the best player available. That's almost always going to be an offensive lineman. And when it isn't, it likely will be a defensive lineman. Skill players are great, but they're NOTHING compared to an OL.

"I mean, look at the history of this franchise. It has had a lot of success over the past 25 years, and that has always started up front. You don't win the most games in a decade with a formula that doesn't work."

With the selection of Su'a Filo, in addition to the selection of Eric Fisher with the first overall pick in last year's draft, the Chiefs are going back to a strategy that has kept the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot full of happy tailgaters year after year: Build a strong OL. Be respectable every year. See what happens in the playoffs.

"With Xavi and Eric, we have the makings of the best OL in NFL history," Dorsey said. "And that's how you win. Skill position players are nothing unless you have the right resources dedicated to building your OL. And everyone knows you can't build an elite OL without filling it with first-round picks."

If you're being serious.....then go **** yourself.

Just completed a trade-up with the Dallas owner there.

Chiefs get: No. 16

Cowboys get: 1st, 4th and 2nd 6th (200) from KC

Xavier sua'Filo now guaranteed to be a Chief in that mock.

I will also be mocking the best available OL or DL to the Chiefs with every pick in that draft.

Incredibly sarcastic. I'm using this entire mock draft to mock the Chiefs. It's flying over the head of most of the guys on there.

Trying to prep my round 3 pick (Pick must be either an OL or DL/OLB) ...

Brandon Turner (OG, Clemson)?
Joel Bitonio (OT, Nevada)?
Trent Murphy (OLB, Stanford)?

I think I'm going to go with Turner.

Seantrel Henderson’s career at Miami had its share of disappointing moments. Another came Thursday when the offensive lineman couldn’t finish his workout at the Hurricanes’ Pro Day.

“He went there intent to do the bench and position drills but his competitive spirit took over and he did a full combine,” Henderson’s agent David Levine told the Sun Sentinel. “At the end of the workout he got dehydrated, started getting a super bad headache, felt like he was going to throw up and didn’t do the last two O-line drills.”

According to Levine, Henderson improved on his broad jump and vertical jump from the combine, posting a ‘8’6” broad, and a 28 ½ vertical. He also benched 225-pounds 25 times. At the combine, Henderson posted a 7’9” broad and a 24-inch vertical.

“He did everything we needed to see,” said an executive from one NFC team. “He just looked pretty winded at the end, but they put them through it.”
