Suspect in custody in highway shooter case
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City police have arrested a Grandview, Mo., man suspected in a series of shootings that have occurred on area roadways since early March, according to Police Chief Darryl Forte.
He was arrested late Thursday afternoon in Grandview, just east of Insterstate 49 and south of the Three Trails Crossing area where seven shootings happened. Police executed a search warrant at the four-plex where the man lived. Authorities towed away a dark green Dodge Neon with an Illinois license plate. Neighbors said the man kept to himself and would come and go at odd hours of the night. About 30 officers, including some wearing tactical gear, arrested him about 5:40 p.m. CDT said Kevin Cooksey, a neighbor. "The dude was like a ghost," Cooksey said. Investigators had received 114 tips as of Wednesday. Authorities have linked 12 shooting incidents from Kansas City, Blue Springs, Lee's Summit and Leawood. Three people have been struck with bullets. Their injuries were not life-threatening. Investigators from several local, state and federal law enforcement agencies have been meeting each day to share information and discuss any updates. Police have not released suspect information because investigators do not want to provide misinformation or lead the public to focus on a specific type of vehicle or person. Victims of the shooting expressed relief and gratitude at the news that an arrest had been made. One of the victims, a Lee's Summit woman whose car was struck on March 31, said it was "great news" to hear that an arrest was made. "I'll be pleased as punch if it is the person," she said. A man who was shot in the arm while driving on April 4 said the shooter "needs to go to jail for awhile." "I'm sure glad they caught him, that was the main thing," he said. Another shooting victim called it "awesome" news. "I'm really relieved that nobody else will get hurt," she said. A woman who was driving with her 3-year-old daughter near 51st Street and State Line Road when their car was hit by a bullet agreed that she wants the shooter to spend time in jail. "He deserves everything he gets," she said. http://www.sacbee.com/2014/04/17/633...t-suspect.html |

Dude shot a bullet through a woman's back window and it whizzed a few inches from her 3 year old in a child seat. Assuming this is the right guy, he should never again see the light of day. Pure sociopath.

Why is this such a bizarre shitty article? What type of gun was he shooting? There doesn't seem to be an appropriate level of attention considering he shot 3 people. Was it a BB gun or what? Why would they question whether he needs to go to jail? Pleased as punch?

AP report - Not much better
Kansas City police arrest Grandview, Missouri, man in highway shootings
Man arrested Thursday at residence near Grandview Triangle Posted: April 17, 2014 - 6:50pm By The Associated Press KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police arrested a suspect Thursday in a string of random vehicle shootings on Kansas City-area highways over the past few weeks that have wounded three motorists and frightened many more. Police Chief Darryl Forte said at a news conference that the suspect is male and lives in Grandview, a suburb south of the city that is home to the Grandview Triangle, where several highways intersect and where at least six of the reported shootings happened. Forte didn’t release the name or age of the suspect, saying he hoped to be able to discuss the case in further detail at a news conference Friday. “We’re here now to basically let people know someone has been apprehended,” an upbeat Forte told reporters at an impromptu news conference about 50 yards from a house where the suspect was taken into custody earlier in the day. “I wanted to make sure the residents and those who travel through Kansas City know they’re safe. They’ve been safe the whole time.” Investigators could be seen searching the single-story four-plex Thursday night, and a tow truck hauled away a green Dodge Neon that was parked behind house, which is about two blocks from Interstate 49/US-71 highway and south of the Grandview Triangle. Forte said the Jackson County prosecutor’s office would determine if there is enough evidence to warrant pressing formal charges. Detectives and analysts started noticing a pattern two weeks ago after reports of random shootings started coming in. Earlier this week, investigators were looking into about 20 reports of shootings, but that number has fluctuated as some reports were cleared and others came in. Late last week, police said they had connected a dozen shootings to the same person. Forte has said little to this point about how the shootings were linked or what kind of vehicle the suspect drove. Two of the wounded drivers were shot in the leg and the third was shot in the arm. None of their wounds were considered life-threatening.
