I'm not sure eBay or Amazon have a direct dog in the fight, but it sure would be good for the consumer. Then again, I suspect the lesser (or more scared) of the two would have their lawyers step forward and question everything that's not really relevant as a "well it's not 100% accurate 'in our opinion'". yeah, the first to do that should be the one everybody runs from.

I'm now a member of both, and I think it's fair to say that it took me this long to "go Prime" because I was struggling to find the real savings, the added challenge I feel the Amazon site offers over the eBay site, and being honest about just how often I need it in two days. I know it's nice to think you're always getting 2-day delivery, but I've also heard that it often doesn't happen even is you order as Prime. Sure, if you complain they comp you, and that's cool, but what if you actually needed it in two days? Oh, and once I got to looking, not tat most things aren't able to be found as Prime, for my long-time Prime friends, they're saying they're seeing more-and-more items not offered as prime. IDK, we'll see.

But alas, the deal is done now. And I'm happy, I'm just trying to be objective...

I've been Prime since it started and have never once had a late delivery. I live in a state where Amazon has several warehouses which plays into that, but I've never had any of my out of state deliveries arrive late.

Well if that's true I'm in good shape... That being said, the folks who work for me in Fayetteville, AR say they collect major comps by their Prime purchases missing the two-day mark...

I can see it mirroring the stock market.

Companies using the search data to front run grandmas order of paper towels.

Neighborhoods will have their own dark pools. High frequency purchasing will skim a few cents and make some people very rich.

I agree, it's a hell of an idea.

When purchasing a complete set of golf clubs for ~$390, eBay turned out to be $22 dollars cheaper for the same exact set of clubs... Pennies?

But your point is not lost...

And if you don't like those clubs for some reason, or if the box is damaged, or there's a chip in one of the woods, Amazon will give you a refund, no questions asked. You can contact them via phone, email, or even live chat.

I won't even talk about eBay because when it comes to customer service, they don't have any.

This. Had an issue with Amazon the other day. Box full of stuff came and I had shampoo in the order. Some dipshit tossed them in the box unsecured and they leaked. Ended up with maybe 2/3 of both bottles left and a mess to clean up. Immediately sent an email to Amazon and within a few hours they had refunded the cost of the shampoo. Money was back in my bank account within hours of emailing them. That's service.

I've returned a few things and never had a problem. I'm not saying Amazon won't make that all the easier, but I've had more challenges dealing with the likes of Dell, HP, and Cisco than the 3-4 things I've wanted to return via eBay.

That being said, will that hold true for both Prime and non-Prime purchases? I was under the impression that non-Prime purchases might be more eBay'esque in that you're more than likely going to get them from a person/business than out of an Amazon warehouse somewhere; does that change how returns are handled?

No, Prime and regular purchases that are fulfilled by Amazon are the same. Think of Prime as a red tag sale. Random items just qualify for free shipping or Prime.

The only time you could get into that is with Amazon Marketplace, which is essentially Amazon's version of eBay.
