They're going to have 4 guys at each corner of the stadium holding a tarp over the field.

Apparently they were constructing some sort of cover during the offseason before a Big Bad Wolf blew it down.
I don't know why Arrowhead is in the business of sheltering little piggies. Doesn't seem to be an effective business model at all. |

The city voted on the idea. They had a promise of hosting a Super Bowl from the NFL if the proposal passed. It failed. I don't see the current public environment anymore willing to tax themselfs than back then to build this rolling roof.

How long is the tax for though? Because they voted on two taxes, passed renovating the stadium but not the rolling roof. I could understand them wanting to wait for one to be paid before passing the other.

The thing was really crazy. Actually when the vote on the stadium renovations went down, the Chiefs were far more worried about what actually passed than the roof. The reason is the stadium improvements that were passed were paid by local taxpayers. The roof was to funded by hotel and other guest taxes. Very similar to the Sprint Center. Early polling had shown that the roof had wider support to pass than the overall improvements, but I believe it was worded that the roof could not be passed without the improvements. This would have prevented a new roof only and no renovations. Ultimately the stadium renovations were done to accommodate for a rolling roof in the future, which would suggest the Chiefs still hold out hopes.

Would it be a rolling roof or would it be a fixed roof? I would rather they built roof sections that covered most of the bowl/fans, but not the field (but nothing like what Dallas formerly had).

The roof could roll between Arrowhead and Kaufman, so we could/would still have outdoor games but also have the roof if needed. And the roof would bring the Super Bowl and NCAA tournament among other things to KC.

And I don't know how long the contract is for Omaha for the NCAA tourney, but we built a downtown ball park for it, and IIRC we get the tourney for like 25 years or something like that.

Arrowhead doesn't need a Superbowl, Kansas City can't handle one.
