Foot work is a part of mechanics. A big part. Yeah he carved up the worst defensive conference in college football in spite of his bad footwork, but that won't fly in the NFL. And we've seen with other QBs like Bortles that as even when the player and an think they've fixed the bad mechanics, the player reverts back to them if they're not constantly practiced.

I don't think Reid wants a QB that he has to start from the ground up on, and then constantly has to be on top of them to keep their mechanics right.

Footwork is easily far more correctable.
