Which QB Do You Like - Page 5

Ok gentlemen, time to let us know what QB you'd like to see the Chiefs draft this year. Maybe list the top 3-5 guys in order of preference.....along with a bit of commentary about each guy. I'll start this with....

(1) P Mahomes - Yeah his footwork stinks and yeah he played in a "gimmick" offense, but he is the absolute antithesis of Alex Smith. Mahomes is a gunslinger whereas Alex has the mentality of an accountant. So, in that singular regard, Mahomes is most appealing. Add in the fact that he has a cannon for an arm and you have the Chiefs starting QB in 2018.

2) D Webb - First of all, I like this kid's pedigree - son of a high school coach so he's been immersed in football/jargon for a long time. Plus he has prototypical size for an NFL QB, an excellent arm capable of all NFL throws, good pocket presence and a high football IQ. Give this kid a year or two to learn behind Alex, and he could end up being a damn good NFL QB. A lot to like about this guy.

3) M Trubisky - A bit concerned that he was only a starter for one year, but he appears to have a very solid NFL skillset. His floor might be higher than any other QB available this year. A safe selection wtih considerable upside.

4) D Watson - Everytime I see/hear mention of Watson as an NFL QB I think of Robert Griffin III. Pretty much similar skillsets, size, arm and football savvy. I thought RGIII would be a dynamite NFL QB, but sadly, he leaned on his running ability too much. I fear the same could happen with Watson. If available, I'd definitely take a flyer on him, but not without some concern.

5) D Kizer - Another strong armed QB with prototypical NFL size. His stats for 2016 were rather "meh", but there were definitely times when he looked damn good. Additionally, his supporting cast for 2016 was also rather "meh". That said, Kizer clearly did not raise the level of play in his surrounding players. Very, high ceiling, but could also be a total bust.

They do. That doesn't mean he can work miracles.

Deconstructing 22 years of muscle memory is going to be extremely hard to do especially since that's not going to be the only thing he has to learn and work on.

If Reid could just rework someone's entire mechanics and turn them into a new QB, we'd already have our QBOF in Bray.

I just don't see it.

I'm not sure that fixing mechanics is all the necessary, other than footwork, and having worked out of the spread, you really wouldn't be fighting muscle memory.

Foot work is a part of mechanics. A big part. Yeah he carved up the worst defensive conference in college football in spite of his bad footwork, but that won't fly in the NFL. And we've seen with other QBs like Bortles that as even when the player and an think they've fixed the bad mechanics, the player reverts back to them if they're not constantly practiced.

I don't think Reid wants a QB that he has to start from the ground up on, and then constantly has to be on top of them to keep their mechanics right.

Footwork is easily far more correctable.

I had a huge megaboner for Mahomes in early February, but the more and more I look at this I see Trubisky, Watson and Kizer over him bc of their mechanics. I still like Mahomes and would be ecstatic if we drafted him, but I agree that he is one hell of a reclamation project.

I think this is my QB board:

1. Watson
2. Kizer
3. Trubisky
4. Mahomes
5. Peterman

After watching more of the kid, I am jumping on the Kizer bandwagon with Pest. I really like his experience, arm, running ability and pocket poise.

I would have no problem with any of the four QB's, but I'm perfectly fine with a team like Houston or Arizona taking Mahomes and leaving us with Kizer.

For some reason I feel like Brad Kaaya is the Kirk Cousins of this draft class. A consensus mid-late round projection that ends up being a viable starter due to good system match and surrounding cast.

As far as Kaaya and the Chiefs go, I don't think that Kaaya has enough mobility for Andy Reid.

Just read that he had to work from 3 different systems in college...I like that, adaptability.

I'm not sold that this is a weak QB class.

That's because you've got the Qb1 disease. The same disease that made many an idiot think that Geno Smith would have been a worthy #1 overall pick.

Frankly I'd be pleased to get any one of the projected top 4 guys. If I had to call it today, my order of preference would be:

1) Watson - athletic, smart, gamer with experience against tough competition. Leader.
2) Mahomes - the coach in me cringes when I watch him with regards to footwork and pocket discipline, but his arm talent and big-play ability cannot be denied. Tough, smart, and respected by teammates.
3) Kizer - Prototype build, pro- level arm strength and athletic enough to make plays with his feet. A bit of a slow processor with some footwork flaws but I think the adversity he went through last season might help his approach in the long run.
4) Trubisky - Arguably the most accurate and efficient of the four. Relatively clean mechanics, but has an odd release where it looks like he pushes the ball somewhat. Good athleticism. My biggest fear with Trubisky is the inexperience/sample size and a persona that seems vanilla and perhaps lacking leadership traits. Apparently some of his under center snaps have been pedestrian in workouts.

Geno would be a 3rd rd pick in this draft.

This class is just as good as 2010, 2011 and 2014 (easily better than 2013).
