The league also passed a rule change moving the overtime period from 15 minutes to 10 minutes and eliminated the 75-man cutdown rule. Rosters will now go from 90 men to 53 before the start of the regular season.
The NFL's owners are approved a rule adding a second player who can returned from the injured reserve list, giving more teams flexibility in roster moves.

I like all of those moves. It gives fringe guys an extra opportunity to show that they belong. But damn, talk about black Monday right before the season. That's going to be a ton of guys on the street.

Did any/many guys ever get picked up by another team during training camp if they were in the first round of cuts? My guess is that's pretty rare, so if that's the case, then this is indeed a great opportunity for them.
