Patriots pursuing trademarks for "19-0" and "19-0 The Perfect Season"
Why?
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive...1081pats1.html Patriots Still Pursuing Perfection Despite Super Bowl loss, 18-1 football team wants "19-0" trademarks APRIL 21--Three months after their bid for an undefeated season ended with a Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants, the New England Patriots are continuing to pursue trademarks on the phrases "19-0" and "19-0 The Perfect Season," records show. While the team may have been expected to withdraw its applications after finishing at 18-1, a Patriots lawyer recently amended the original filings to correct a typographical error, a clear indication that the organization remains committed to securing the marks (perhaps Bill Belichick & Co. are anticipating perfection in the 2008 season). On January 17, days before facing the San Diego Chargers in the AFC Championship Game, the Patriots filed the trademark applications, which, if approved, would allow the club to place "19-0" and "19-0 The Perfect Season" on a wide variety of toys, DVDs, clothing, sporting goods, and other knick knacks. As seen below, on April 11 the Patriots tweaked their original United States Patent and Trademark Office filings to correct a misspelling. The team wanted to make it clear that they seek to sell toy banks, not "toy bans." (2 pages) |

What for? So when a team actually does it they can't say they're 19 -0 without the patriots permission. Arrogant cheating pricks

I think that those phrases are too generic for them to get the rights.
Threepeat was a new expression so I can understand wanting to copyright that. If I had a good hockey team, I might try to get the rights to "Thrice on the Ice"--but I think it might confuse some hockey fans... |

Has "worst to first" or "first to worst" been trademarked yet? I think I'll go do it...

Silly. Don't see why they'd want to pursue it, nor do I understand what particular right they would have to get it. Not like they can lay some kind of claim to it by having been the first to do it or anything. :banhead:

why would you want to celebrate a regular season record if you didn't finisht he job in the super bowl?
that is like the chiefs 'division champions' shirts, for years in which they get stomped in the first playoff game. |
