I can't believe so many people think he's actually the best rapper today. I like rap, I listen to a lot, but I have to agree with Rain Main in that it's not that big of a deal or THAT impressive to know how to rhyme.
what gets me is that people think that he's a really clever lyricist...

i guess he seems clever when all you are used to hearing is snap 'n' pop bull shit on the radio. those guys are the worst.

lil wayne is ooooookkaaaaayyy... but people that champion him for his smart rhymes are ignorant and naive

What pisses me off, is the fact that people lump guys like him and Tupac together.

They're nowhere close. Yet, they're all rap... and all crap.

LOL I know what you're saying. No rapper or his lyrics are clever, IMO. What about talking about bitches and hos and making it rain on them in the strip club is clever? I guess asking for a rapper to make me think and "awe" me with his lyrics is asking too much in today's "it's all about the money and cars" world.

I like rap. It's fun to listen to, good beats and stuff, especially in the club. But I just don't see how anyone would claim it as being "culture." It will never be taken seriously, and it shouldn't. Especially with what rappers rap about.

Rap went bad at around the year 2000. First it was rapping about what their lives were about and the occasional party song. NOw its all about drinking and how many and what kind of cars they have. It took a turn for the ****ing worst.

IMO, that turn was in 1988-89 with NWA.....hasn't been the same since. Back then we had LL Cool J, Kool Moe Dee, Young MC, etc. There were more, but that was quite a long time ago.

To tell ya the truth, i didnt like any on that list but LL Cool J, even him he only had a few good songs. Again, my opinion. I liked the "gangster rap" era. I grew up in that kind of environment. My whole family on my dad's side is pretty much gang related. I didnt grow up in Los Angeles like they did, i grew up in Central/Northern Cal and in the "hood" part of town. I pretty much have seen it all and i can relate to just about anything they "rap" about. I have had family members die due to the gang shit and alot of other things. Its just basically talking about life and how ****ed up it is becuase of where you were born and what you had to do to live. I have done some pretty shady things when i was younger, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do. Then when rap became very very mainstream. ALl they did was talk about about partying and how much cash they have. For me, thats where it went wrong.

No, rap can be clever. Take, for example, this track by Blackalicious:
