Andy McKee is from Topeka, KS from what I understand. BTW, that video has been posted before. Not chastising. Just saying. I now have that album. Very cool style.

Not sure how old he is. Judging from his appearance, I would guess his age is somewhere around yours and mine.

Here's some info
Andy McKee (born in 1979 in Topeka, Kansas, United States) is an American fingerstyle guitarist currently signed to the American record label Candyrat Records. His style of playing and his compositions have earned him a considerable international fanbase; in late 2006, a live performance of his flagship song "Drifting" became a Featured Video on YouTube and MySpace, achieving over 22,000,000 views on the former to date and remaining one of its highest rated music clips. A handful of McKee's other songs have experienced lesser success on YouTube, such as "Rylynn" with over 10,000,000 views and "Africa" reached over 9,000,000 views before suddenly being removed by Candyrat Records.

I've seen Andy live here in town about half a dozen times. Fantastic player, and a pretty cool human being.
"Rylynn" is my favorite piece.

Did any of you guys ever get into Michael Hedges? I did about 1988 when his live album on Windham Hill came out and he appeared on PBS. He was probably most known for his great cover of Sheila E's Love Bizarre. Here's a live video from Wolftrap outside of D.C. in 1986, unfortunately Michael died in a car crash in 1997 at the age of 43.

Pretty cool; i've never heard a banjo-type roll on an acoustic. I wonder if he has the guitar tuned like a banjo/open G etc (the first clip). Pretty cool though. Some parts of his stuff sound a lot like Tommy Emanuel (which is a good thing). It's the first I've heard of him, but I like his stuff.

...indeed. as my dad would say about amazing guitarists (Emanuel, Dykes, McKee etc)..."for those guys, playing guitar is like breathing to you and I. Effortless"

Mrs. saleenman607 bought me and my two kids a meet and greet with Satch at The Warfield in SF last year. One of the questions I asked him, was who inspires him lately, to which he replied Tommy Emmannual. He also said his (Tommy's) playing inspired the song Andalusia from the Pfoffesor Satchafunkilus CD. Truly a master player.......and NICE dude |
