16 hours to sign Runyan

OK, if we sign Runyan in the next 24 hours his salary for 2009 is guaranteed. If we haven't signed him by then, I fully expect him to sign with the Eagles.

After working out for three teams, he expected some swelling in his knee but has reported no change and feels with 1 week of practice(to get his timing down) he would be ready to start.

So, would you sign him NOW to avoid another team getting him ... BUT take the risk that he gets a paycheck and never contibutes...

He wants money, so far Clark hasn't opened the checkbook except for MC. It is not the Patriots (Pioli) way or the Hunts way to just throw money at a player. If we get him for a good deal then he is a Chiefs player...but don't hold your breath.

I don't think this team's going to sign another player of note for a while.

Woah, we only pick the right players, not the best players.

latest update from ESPN

Runyan ready to contribute to team
Sal Paolantonio ESPN

PHILADELPHIA -- After completing a workout with a third team in the last week, former Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Jon Runyan left the Buffalo Bills saying he felt "great" and was ready to join a team and make a contribution immediately.

"I'm ready to play," said Runyan, who had microfracture surgery on his right knee in February and was cleared by doctors three weeks ago to begin working out with NFL teams. "I'd just need a week of practice to get my timing down and I'd be ready."

Runyan has worked out for the Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Eagles, but so far no contract has been offered. He suspected that teams are waiting until next week. If Runyan is on a roster on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, as a vested veteran his entire 2009 salary is guaranteed. After Sunday, a more club-friendly contract can be ironed out.

"I think everybody is trying to figure out what they have on the O-line," Runyan said.

The Eagles are in a particularly dire predicament. Starting right tackle Shawn Andrews, who was moved from left guard to take Runyan's place, has been ruled out for Sunday, complaining of persistent pain in his back -- an injury that has kept him off the field since Week 2 of last season.

The under-achieving Winston Justice has been inserted in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers. The only other start for Justice came on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2007, against the New York Giants and it ended in embarrassment. Justice allowed Osi Umenyiora to sack Donovan McNabb six times. All told, the Giants had 12 sacks in that game. The Eagles lost 16-3.

Runyan said that after three workouts this week his knee was doing better than expected.

"I thought I might have some swelling with all the workouts, and all this time sitting on airplanes, but it hasn't happened," said Runyan, 35, who started 192 straight games before the Eagles released him at the end of last season. "I haven't had any swelling and no pain. So, that's a good sign."

Runyan said he hoped to hear something from one of the teams in the coming week.

Sounds like he's going to land with the Eagles.

Sure. let's throw another draft pick out there.

Maybe we can pick up some more cheap garbage like Ndukwe and Allenman.

I was advocating this: just stating the options. It's pretty obvious that something has to be done though.

Wont be signed until next week, because of the guarantee contract. With the information lock down at 1 Arrowhead Dr., we wont know if it was a bad workout or if we didnt make a good offer.

He told some of the Philly media that he felt like he had a better workout in Philly than he did in KC. I can't help but wonder if that was due to him or due to the types of workouts that he was asked to do by the two clubs. The consensus in Philly is that he'll rejoin the Eagles after week one. I'd love to see him in a KC uniform if he could regain only 80% of his peak form.

Hell yes sign him, who "except" Clark Hunt gives a rats ass if his salary is guaranteed? I sure as hell don't. We have plenty of cap room and this may just be the break this line has needed. What could it hurt?

Would be a solid pickup, probably not so much the workout but with whom the workout was with. No doubt he is more comfortable with the Philly organization. I cant imagine Pioli would low ball someone to protect his $63 million investment. Or he's waiting for Monday night's game to end to make an offer.

If he ends up in Philly AFTER week 1... then we didn't offer or we didn't offer ENOUGH before the deadline. If that is the case, I am not going to be happy at all.

And I could care less what the idiotic Philly media "think" (massive stretch of that word when speaking of Philly fans). We have a shot at him RIGHT NOW, I would bet he'd take a contract with us before 4pm EST tomorrow if offered... rather than wait and take a non-guaranteed one with Philly.

Or maybe his workout wasnt good. This is no way to know, he admitted his workout in Philly was better than it was here.
