You have an odd definition of pocket presence because Cassel's is awful.

PMs line is not as good as you make it seem to be, his release and elite level of preparation let him expose teams when they blitz..making teams shy away from doing so. That takes the pressure off the oline. Cassel would be helping in this area if he was better prepared and had better chemistry with his receivers. Hopefully, that comes in time. When Cassel gets blitzed, he stops looking at his receivers and looks at the rush. You will notice that if you watch for it for now on. |

...every WR is wide open every play...2 seconds after the snap...
![]() ...and how many different WR's has this guy had to throw to without any substantive practice for timing and rythym other than Bowe and Bradley? even these two have missed practice and playing time..as well as Cassel has from injury... Wade Ingram Lelie Chambers no time no timing no success dude has how many rushing yards due to running for his life? I'm reminded of Green's first season due to int's....most people ate crow on that one. |

I'm not comparing Cassel to Manning. I said CASSEL HAS AVOIDED MORE SACKS THAN MANNING WILL BE HURRIED ALL YEAR. How in the living **** is that comparing the two? **** me! My special ed students have better reading comprehension than you do. |

Honestly, at this point you can't rag on Cassel for a lot. Have some throws been arrant of hope? Yes, admittedly so, but he's also made quite a few throws that a lot of QBs don't make, and he hasn't been careless. Watching these games, it's obvious that when we make plays, it's because something spectacular happens, not because everything worked as designed.
This horrendous offensive line is the obvious focal point for me. Our offense is not really on the offensive. We aren't making calculated movements. It all looks like a reaction to whatever happens to them instead. Quit looking around, and get better at what you do. The defense should be reacting to you, not the other way around. We look like a team full of a lot of uncertainty. With time, could Cassel be as accurate as anyone? We have yet to see what that looks like over any length of time (by which I mean more than one play, he's stuck in a rhythm of scared shitless). He makes every throw under duress. Though I would quickly agree that the completion percentage is suck, and the yard per attempt is just ugly. I would like to see the stat on hurries, or passing attempts made outside the pocket, which only really references about....what 95% of his attempts? Those projected stats have him hitting the turf by way of sack 60+ times....good god. Everyone has to get better. It's cliche but it's true. I just think we could see a different QB if he had some protection and a receiver or two that know how to get open. I'm also changing my mind some on Haley's role and his ability to handle it all. HE NEEDS an Offensive Coordinator so he can do his job as Head Coach. I really feel like a few things this year, and I stress a few, have seemed like grasping at straws. I like that he's emotional, but he needs to be calculated. |

Cassel is nothing but a crappy game manager. Pioli failed on the most important decision even more important than a head coach.

When Cassel starts throwing the ball more then 3 yards down the field during the first 56 minutes of the game, we can start making fair comparisons.
Until then, 55% completion on 3 and 4 yard passes sucks. |

but of course that should be more than enough time to find a receiver downfield for a nice 23 yard completion. |

There are way too many short passes. It can't get any worse, so why not take some shots down field? Maybe, just maybe the defense will start to respect the deep passes, thus freeing up our running game a little bit. |
