Boston sportswriter rips Belichick on personnel decision
Did anybody else hear the sportswriter from Boston on Soren Petro's show today? (I don't remember his name).

He talked about several bad personnel decisions that Bill Bellichick has made since Scott Pioli left the Patriots, including throwing Mike Vrabel into the Cassel trade and trading away Richard Seymour.

I don't necessarily agree with him, and I think getting a high #1 pick for a old player is a good move, not a bad one.

But it IS interesting to hear someone from the New England area speculating that the Patriots are worse off without Scott Pioli and that Pioli was a lot more than just a "Yes" man for Belichick.

Mayo was a good pick, the other guys are "ok" but when you are giving guys like Jonathan Wilhite significant playing time, problem.

It probably doesn't help that the Patriots still don't have a RB and haven't drafted a good pass rusher in well ever.

I agree on playcalling, and the defense wasn't wholly to blame or anything, but the Defense was no great shakes either.

End of first half, the Patriots are trying to get the ball back. Ravens are deep in their own end. Six rushes, two first downs, and its halftime. That is domination.

Colts and Saints annihilated our defense. Not that they didn't annihilate others, but still...

Ravens game week 4 -- our defense seem primed to allow a TD to them until their guy (was it Mason) just dropped the ball that had hit him in the chest.

Both sides of the ball were just INCONSISTENT.

I think the Pats problem in the draft is their obsession with trading down. With all those picks they had last year, they would have been better off consolidating them for a better talent. They could have moved up to take Clay Matthews, or stayed put and taken Maualuga.

That team is very weird when it comes to LB's, it's like they don't value drafting them at all and would rather just play old guys.

Because Mike Vrabel was a consummate leader on and off the field, constantly got us to take good angles and wrap up, and was worth every bit of that 3 million bucks.

Vrabel was less than worthless this year.

Belichick knew that the '09 Patriots didn't have it, so he maximized the value of an investment (Seymour) that he wouldn't have after this year, and got rid of a broke dick dog to clear cap space for FA's (Vrabel).

Hell, Seymour played in an active, get up the field scheme this year and had 47 tackles and 4 sacks.

You wouldn't trade that for a 1st round pick?

That's one of the reasons I don't think we'll see one drafted this year, although there was the mayo exception.

They also seem to devalue defensive backs, which makes Barry's potential to be our pick harder to read.
