"As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me"
Watched it on Netflix Streaming last night. It's a true story based...(I'm just going to copy/paste the summary): After escaping from a Siberian labor camp in the wake of World War II, German soldier Clemens Forell (Bernhard Bettermann) makes his way toward his wife and children, traveling more than 8,000 miles over the course of three long years to reach his final destination. Hardy Martins directs this critically acclaimed adaptation of the best-selling book by Josef Martin Bauer, a true story of survival and courage. Found it pretty damn good but be forewarned - subtitles. But their worth enduring for this one. A rare 5 star rating. |

If you get in the mood for an old black & white movie like I do sometimes try out "The Asphalt Jungle", can't go wrong.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0042208/ Classic noir and wow was Marlyn Monroe absolutely gorgeous. |

Watched "Red" and "Winters Bone" last night. Both were very good movies in my opinion but each in their different ways obviously.
As far as action flicks go in "Red" there were lots of shootouts and plenty of explosions to keep your interest if you like that sort of thing (and lets be honest who doesn't). The comedy was on par with what I expected it to be. Also throw in some romance but not to much to the point where it gets sappy or anything. The plot was pretty good, though I could see how some might see it as perhaps a bit contrived. Morgan Freeman is always a welcome addition. Mary Louise Parker was pretty good as was Willis. It was probably one of Willis's better movies in recent memory at least in my opinion. Malkovich though really stole the show as far as I was concerned. He played is character to perfection. His facial expressions, mannerisms, and comedic timing were all impeccable in one of his better performances at least for my money (mind you that's saying alot since he's quite a brilliant actor). Overall pretty good film...not going to win any awards or anything but still a fun ride from beginning to end. You shouldn't be disappointed. As far as "Winters Bone" goes....some movies are meant to help you forget your problems by escaping into new worlds. Some films are meant to help you solve your problems in your world. Films like this however are meant to show you that your problems just arent that bad after all. This film is quite stunning and bleak at the same time. Winters Bone shows us a culture in america so different that most outside of it are scarcely aware of its existence. It shows a different type of backwoods poverty that many are just unfamiliar with. It's the amazng dialogue, cinematography and stunning acting that were specifically effective in helping to sell this culture to the viewer. Filled with some wonderfull performances throughout, especially by John Hawkes (Uncle Teardrop) and Jennifer Lawrence (Ree Dolly) this film is sure to get some nominations at next years Oscars. Also concerning director Debra Granik, it would not suprise me if she ended up being this years version of Kathryn Bigelow. Overall Winters Bone as far as I can tell might be this years must see film in the same mold that "The Hurt Locker" was last year. "Winters Bone" is easily one of the best films I've seen this year. Again, these are just my opinions on the films...take them for what they're worth, helpful or not. |

What? Quotes and an apostrophe are chopped liver?
Back on topic: I saw John Woo's Reign of Assassins yesterday, and I have to say that this is the best wire-fu I have ever seen. Completely mesmerizing and Michelle Yeoh is still a badass lady. |

saw The Town tonight. Great movie. Affleck has really come into his own. I've almost forgotten (and forgiven) Pearl Harbor.

My wife went to go rent a couple of movies. She got a rom-com and what she thought was gonna be a tough, hard-core LA gang movie, LA Mission.
Well LA Mission is about a mexican OG who is no longer a thug. He finds out that his son is gay and has trouble dealing with it. Lou Diamond Phillips. It was actually very good. |
