Of those listed I like Colt.
Don’t be afraid of the 1991A1 either, that’s what mine actually is. My dad bought a Springfield 1911 and eventually put a competition trigger group in it because the stock trigger pull was so notching it was next to impossible to get any accuracy out of it. The competition trigger solved that issue but I never had that problem with my Colt. Thing about the 1911 is that it’s rough on ammo because it picks the bullet up from the magazine forcing it up at an angle before shoving it into the barrel. You can have it “raced” to smooth out the transition into the barrel, or do the work yourself just go slow and don’t remove too much material. Welder Buddy has a Charles Daly that comes with the “race” treatment already done. I’ve read very good things about the Kimber but have never handled one myself. Doesn’t Sig Sauer make a 1911?

Honestly I'd prefer to buy American but I haven't ruled out a brand.I heard rumors about Ruger putting out a limited edition model next year but I'm not sure I want to buy a "test" model even if the Ruger will be way less $$ (which I do expect) than other models.I figure I'm only going to get 1 maybe 2 1911's my whole life so I definitely want to get the right one for me the first time.

My only problem with the true 1911 styles is the limitation on magazine size.

Yes,but with a single stacked .45 how many rounds do you truly expect? I mean I love the 17 round double stacked mags in my SR9 but style wise the 1911 is a way more eye pleasing firearm IMO.

I don't disagree with that at all. I'm just talking from a defensive functionality standpoint.

:edit: Honestly though,if I had one I'm not sure I'd grab it first in a home protection case.I've been on both sides of the 8 rounds of .45 vs 15/17 rounds of 9mm for home protection argument and I can say I think I would grab my 9mm first because of the amount of ammo it holds. |

I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II. I love it. It shoots extremely well. It wasn't cheap since it comes from their custom shop. But IMHO they make very good firearms.

Yeah the Kimber I'm looking at is right at $1000,which isn't high end Kimber by any means, but it's what I like so far.

I have an old Colt. Don't know much about it, because the serials were filed off. It's a kick ass gun, though.
