All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth, me and atleast 5 others will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

We just went over the success rate of a MLB first round/supplemental pick the other day. It isn't high. Many of them don't make the majors or even develop as prospects at all.

Actual, high level prospects are worth a ton more than any MLB draft pick.

well, his career ERA+ is better than Lee's, he has two years left on his contract vice the 3 months the Rangers got out of Lee, he is five years younger than Lee, his numbers through his age 26 season blow Lee's away even if you take away his Cy Young year.

Maybe he isn't worth it to Toronto, but his value is sky-high to someone. If a crappy Drabek+Snider deal is all we can get right now, then Greinke is my opening day starter and I'll take a chance on someone getting desperate in July.

I'll do the math for you.

Even if we conservatively predict that Snider and Drabek never develop at all from what they are today, you can still approximate them as 2 WAR players going forward.

2 WAR x 11 years (5 for Snider, 6 for Drabek)= 22 WAR


And lets say Greinke is a 6 WAR pitcher for the next 2 years of his contract.

6 WAR x 2= 12 WAR

Why should the Jays make this trade again? Especially when they aren't anywhere close to contending in 2011 or 2012?

To an extent. But if you're truly working to build a foundation, you need talented players so that young players aren't being asked to do too much, as Greinke was when he first arrived.

Cliff Lee was pretty mediocre for the first 5 years of his career, eh? It's incredible how much he improved.

And Drabek is one of the top 5 pitching prospects in baseball right now. He may not have accomplished anything at the MLB level, but that is worth a hell of a lot.

Not really. Most guys come back from that surgery fine these days, and aren't any more injury prone than any other pitcher.

And we've discussed the limited sample size and the shortage of elite SP who have undergone TJ. But, hey, maybe Drabek can develop into your very own Soria.

The list does more to weaken your argument than to support it. How many elite starters do you see there after TJ?

When did the standard become elite?

Most of those guys are very good pitchers. If Drabek could become something resembling AJ Burnett (at least his Florida/Toronto form), that would be just fine.
