Fescoe: Haley took playcalling away from Weis in 2nd Half

Just got a 610 text that says Fescoe is reporting that Haley took playcalling away from Weis in the 2nd half yesterday. That could explain why the playcalling was so horrific in the 2nd half, and if true I think Haley should be in some hot water. That was some of the worst playcalling I have ever seen in my entire life.

I could see Haley calling plays but having someone in the OC title to help put the game plan together, like that OC under McDaniels in Denver (I'm spacing his name right now). It's not like other head coaches don't do that.

I'd prefer Haley calling the plays...

This is his shot...his NFL coaching shot...the peak of his profession...

If that's what he does, and what got him there...let him call the plays...if he can't do it he can't do the job and he doesn't deserve the job...period.

If Sean Payton can call all of the plays and win a Super Bowl then I'm pretty sure Todd Haley can handle playcalling duties on game day...if that's what he NEEDS as a head coach then that's fine with me.

My Crennel analysis is probably heat of the moment but I was disappointed to say the least with our preseason scheme against the Ravens...who are not a potent offense...especially when, outside of A meaningless run, we shut their running game totally down.

Flacco didn't have to make a tough throw...underneath routes and crossing routes were wide open...flats...wide open...

It was sickening.
As Hamas mentioned, that's always been the blueprint to beating us.

Baltimore was just the first to truly take advantage and gameplan around it.

What you saw on Sunday is what you get from the Patriots style of defense. Bend but don't break.

And the defense didn't break until the midway point of the 3rd quarter - pretty solid considering the offense refused to sustain drives and give them some rest.

Yep. Hire that McCoy as OC who will act essentially as a QB coach and will call Haley's offense. If it turns out Haley isn't a very good offense coach, then get rid of him, because that's supposedly his strength.

A lot of posters here didn't want Crennel because his schemes were too passive. There has been a definite improvement in the defense this year but it's just possible that it's because of player improvement under Emmitt Thomas and Anthony Pleasant, along with the addition of some more talented safeties and not because of Crennel's schemes.

I really don't know.

To me, this is more of that same old, "Did you hear what ____ said? Oh, my God! We're going to die!!!" stuff that seems to occasionally dominate conversation around here.

The season ended two days ago. Haley is asked a question about OC and he provides a vague answer, "Oh, my God!! We're screwed!!!". Perhaps it would be wise to give Haley and Pioli another couple of days to consider their plan moving forward regarding staff needs before the bridge gets too crowded and Home Depot runs out of rope. Personally, I'm not too worried about the OC position. They know we need a more consistent, productive offense.

Meanwhile, what I'm mainly concerned about is that we need a nose tackle and some magic dust to sprinkle on Cassel's balls.

yeah maybe you're right

but that drive at the end of the 1st half where we let them pick up that 3rd and 12 changed the game every bit as much as that failed 4th and 1 (IMO)

Big play? Sure.

A game changer like the 4th down abortion?

Not seeing it.

The life got sucked out of the stadium and the KC sideline after that play.

I don't think this is fair, Mr. FAX.

Haley said, directly, the he'll consider calling plays in '11. People are going to react. It's not like we're getting this information second-hand from the local pizza joint.

Which seems more likely?
Let me ask you this question -- what do you think the role of Sean Payton's OC is? Let's suppose he calls the plays. I think he does, actually. But wouldn't you agree its Payton's offense being called?

In my opinion, you bring in an OC to call Haley's offense, or you fire Haley.

I'm fine with this, but my staunch position is that you must bring in an OC. If Haley then wants to act as play-caller on Sundays, fine.

Someone else needs to manage the game as a whole because Haley cannot do both. Shit, he struggles, at times, not to react too rashly to game situations now. For example, great ****ing challenge on an otherwise meaningless spot early in a playoff game, Todd. These kinds of missteps have the potential to cost dearly.

I hate spot challenges with a passion and Haley needs to quit doing them. Put those challenges in your back pocket and save them for game changing plays (TDS, turnovers) later in the game.

different game if we are up 7-3 at half rather than 10-7...

and I still don't disagree with that 4th and 1 playcall at all...

It was quite evident our game plan was to attack the outside...we knew we weren't going anywhere on inside runs...

to think we would've picked up that 1st down running inside like it was nothing is a joke, if you ask me...we had no better chance with that then we did with the toss sweep or passing the ball.
