Our Idiot Brother was a letdown. The gags fell pretty flat, and there were no great lines for the audience. The beginning starts with Ned, in all his naivete, selling pot to a cop. A uniformed cop. The idea is a lot better than its execution on film, which comes off as dirty and mean.

"Paper Man" is absolutely fantastic.
"Paranormal Activity" was kinda fun too. But weird. |

On it's face, yes. Not good odds. But it's very likely that a casting director, while reading a script written by someone with an odd name might be subconsciously already thinking of an actor with the same name before they even start reading the first page, so they're already LOOKING for a character to cast that actor as and imagining that actor as they read the script the first time. Suddenly the unlikely becomes almost assured.

The Brit filmakers are really getting into the swords & sandals game lately, it started for me with The Eagle, then a few nights ago caught Centurion which in many respects was far better than eagle, waaay more action & brutal realism in the battle scenes, plenty of great locations. The only down side was the length, it go's on & on & on.
But the best of the lot was easily Ironclad, its the best mix of story, production values & length of the eagle & the ultra-realistic battle scenes of Centurion. You really get it all in this one, castle siege warfare, open field battles, of course awesome locales... but the kicker is the battle realism... i mean, THIS is what it must have looked like, the butchery is just incredible. One particular scene where the hero tells his men to clear him a path on the ramparts of a castle wall to get at some Norman siegers who'd made it over the wall was pure. awesomeness. You really see what a power stroke from a broadsword would do to a man. |

Watched Lincoln Lawyer this weekend. Freaking great movie. I thought it was very well written, though you could tell they cut it shorter than what it was intended to be.
