I don't think it got as far as making an offer. Manning basically said he wasn't interested in playing for a team that had top 10 talent except for QB.

I think Elway ****ed us over. He told PM's camp that if they wanted to negotiate at all with Denver, KC had to be out of the picture from the jump. He took the ultimatum.
Truthfully I have no idea if that happened or do I really think it did, but if Elway was any kind of businessman he would have dropped the gauntlet like that and let Manning decide who he would walk away from. It's not like he couldn't always come back hat in hand and make a last ditch effort anyway, but it would have made for a great box out move as the process opened. |

I really like Manning, but the fact that he would go to Denver(who's only offensive skill talent was at QB), shows me that he's officially done. He's clearly been hit one too many times in the head.

I can tell you what I heard from sources out of Denver (take it or leave it). I heard that the Chiefs went in talking money first (even made the first offer), whereas Peyton wanted to talk money last, and talk programs and ideas first. What I heard was that while money was obviously important, he didn't want to lead off talking about money and turn it into a bidding war. Instead, he wanted to get to know the people and organizations involved, and then once he found the right one (or two), THEN talk about the money.

I remember reading in the Manning thread (or somewhere else on here), that Manning's agent told the interested teams that they would only negotiate with teams offering, at minimum, $16m or so per year. Could be wrong, but I distinctly recall reading an interview with Pioli or another exec about it.

what is most interesting is that the offer the donks ultimately made was enought that he'd make more than he would have in Indy, and 1 million more than the entire Indy deal. Interesting. That alone tells me it was mostly about the money. The guy is an ego maniac. It will NOT end well for denver. Manning is a decent blindside hit away from eating his filet mignon and lobster through a straw while wearing diapers. He wanted as much money as he could get his hands on. If it really was about systems and winning, he would have chosen SF, Tenn, KC, or ARI in that order. All have better systems up and running and more offensive talent around him. Its pretty clear why he went to denver.
