At that price, I'm sure it's the old (Carson) tower. The Rush tower is quite a bit more expensive. I usually ask for a free upgrade where ever we stay though, so you never know.

On your first trip stay upstrip, go downstrip to Fremont District one night to look around and see Vegas as it was back in the day.

it'll be her first. I was thinking the same thing -- the atmosphere and pretty lights would make her first trip there more fun. (new strip) |

Stay away from the Riviera, Circus Circus and the Stratosphere (North Strip). They may be quite a bit cheaper options, but there isn't much within walking distance from those properties. On the south part of the strip, Harrah's and Flamingo are probably your cheapest options. Maybe Bill's Gambling Hall too.

Check the convention schedule and avoid the big ones like the plague. Room prices are jacked up and your hotel will be even more crowded than usual. http://www.lvcva.com/what-we-do/meet...d-conventions/ When to Visit Las Vegas by SmarterTravel Staff Rather than ask when to visit Las Vegas, you should ask when not to go: The city has become so popular that an "off season" is nonexistent. There are times to avoid Las Vegas, however, such as during New Year's, most three-day public holidays, July 4th, and school vacations. Valentine's Day is also out unless you are planning to get married—fast. Throughout the year, the city is relatively crowded and the weather remains dry and sunny. For swimmers and sunbathers, the weather is ideal from May to September. Spring and fall are the best for walking the Strip or venturing into the surrounding desert. high season: January to mid-November shoulder season: late November to December If there are times that peak more than others, they're New Year's Eve through mid-February during winter escape time and July 1 through Labor Day due to family vacations. Weather Information Crowd Information Las Vegas is less crowded between Christmas and New Year's Eve, and Tuesdays through Thursdays the rest of the year when hotels and resorts put out their best room rates and incentive packages. Typically, there are more convention attendees in the first few months of the year. Closure Information Some shows go dark just before or after big holidays. Check shows ahead of time for holiday breaks, closures, and schedule changes. When to Save To save on hotels, the best time to go is between Christmas and New Year's Eve, or during the weeks following Labor Day. However, hotels don't like to reduce rooms until they're certain they won't sell, so don't expect the best deals until the last minute. And even then, there's no guarantee.

Do the hotwire.com deal where they don't reveal the hotel name so you get the room basically half off. And there is no worries about getting a dump because you filter it by star rating and they also show you on the map the area you will be staying. So say you choose that option and want a 3 star room. You choose your area and are guaranteed a room with that star rating within that area of the map. Then you just look at all the hotels like regular within that area so you know what to expect.
I did it a while back here in KC on a "staycation" we wanted a 4-star room. We had different options such as Kansas City-Plaza area or Kansas City-downtown/Crown Center area. We chose downtown which has four or five 4 star hotels. Ended up getting the Sheraton at Crown center for about $90 per night instead of the normal rate of almost $200. |

yes, it's either the Strip or Downtown.
You can also stay at the Rio, they have shuttles to Harrahs like every half hour.
