Dungy had exactly the same kind of team in Tampa Bay that Herman ****ing Edwards had in New York.

The only real difference between Dungy and Herman ****ing Edwards is Peyton Manning.

Bullshit. Tony dungy had an elite defense behind an unbelievably shitty qb. Herms team relied heavily on Pennington. Behind even an average qb, dungys team probably would have won a few playoff games, even if I believe his Marty ball philosophy would have kept Tampa from the super bowl.

In Indy... Why did the colts fail in the playoffs? Was it poor game planning? Poor game management? Or was it Peyton playing uncharacteristically bad football, especially against the patriots?

I'm going to disagree with that to an extent. Sapp, Brooks, Lynch and a couple of the other guys credit him with how good they became.

I attribute the losses to the fact that he allowed Manning to run things on the field, and he and the staff didn't adjust to defenses that got pressure on Manning.

The one SB win was when Manning was playing terribly, and he adjusted to get the running game involved.

This is a fair statement. But that's a little unfair to pin that on dungy. Tom Moore deserves a lot of that blame. And you simply cannot have Peyton on your team unless you let him run the show. We saw that in his Peyton tour how he demands control, even on personnel.

Fair points. But again, this doesn't make him herm.

Dungy isn't a disaster like Crennel, but he is nothing more than an average at best NFL coach. What value did he provide at Indy other than a stable hand? His supposed clame-to-fame, defense, was the big weakness in Indy. John Fox appears to be doing more with an aging Manning than Dungy did in Manning's prime.

A few things. First, polians philosophy was to rotate the back 7. So the defense had to deal with constantly changing, second rate personnel. Second, dungy ran the Tampa 2 a few years past it's prime. Keep in mind that, unlike herm, he doesn't strike me as a guy married to Tampa 2. His career started out in Pittsburgh and kc, so he's versed in cowher and Marty defensive schemes. Wouldn't be surprised to see him shift to an entirely different defense.

And it's too soon to say what fox is doing with Peyton. He's played one season against a weak division.

What value did he provide? Again, we have seen so many teams quit on their coach or rebel against a hardass. Dungy pumps out consistently very good teams. For 13 years. Hes a very good coach. I don't know how anyone can discredit him. He's only overrated by people who think he's a blue chip coach. Again... He is Marty, not herm.
