Ok, now for the GOOD of the Smith trade...

Not to say there is a ton of good but let's try and point out some goodness from it since it is a done deal...

1. It means Cassel is gone....
2. We have a QB who actually has experience in college and more than part of 1 season in the pro's for the first time since?????
3. We still hold our #1 pick and could still pick up a QB in the draft
4. Smith is a viable backup should #3 come about

Ok, well that's all I got .....

We didn't get Jim Harbaugh. We got Alex Smith without Jim Harbaugh.

We had the opportunity to pick a guy who:
1. Has a stronger arm that AS
2. Is faster than AS
3. Is less injury prone than AS
4. Is bigger and stronger than AS
5. Is about 8 years younger than AS
6. It is costing us two good draft selections that could have gone to defensive back, wide receiver etc etc etc.

You say GS had nothing to offer this year that is better than AS has to offer?
I beg to differ.

That is just flat out wrong. Senior QBs putting up video game numbers in in a BCS conference with ridiculus TD:INT ratios and 70% completion percentages don't just fall to the 2nd round because the media idiots say so and they are too stupid to stop comparing this year's QBs to Luck and RG3.

Perhaps you haven't seen this:

Matt Cassel's career stats as of today: 58% completion, 6.6 yards/pass, 173 yards/game, 82 TD to 57 INT, 160 sacks, and 24 40+ yard plays.

Alex Smith's career stats as of today: 59% completion, 6.6 yards/pass, 178 yards/game, 81 TD to 63 INT, 196 sacks, and 33 40+ yard plays.

Doubtful. Alex Smith doesn't lack arm strength, he's just not a major risk taker....forcing the ball into coverage downfield...etc.

Quote:
2. Is faster than AS
Still not sure how this matters when it comes to QB's. If it did, Tyrod Taylor and Joe Webb would be frontline starters. Both of them are sufficiently mobile and able to run.

Quote:
3. Is less injury prone than AS
That remains to be seen, Alex was injury free throughout college, his only major injury was having his shoulder crushed by an unblocked defensive lineman burying him into the ground.

Quote:
4. Is bigger and stronger than AS
Now this absolutely confuses me.

Geno Smith-6'2", 190

Alex Smith-6'4", 220

Quote:
5. Is about 8 years younger than AS
And also incredibly raw, and as many have confirmed, not a guy teams would be comfortable with as a starter. If Geno Smith was everything people here claimed he was, Reid would have never traded for Alex Smith, but the reality is that in a decent draft, he's a 2nd rounder at best and someone that needs to sit and watch at the next level. Reaching for him just because he happens to be the best QB in a draft with mediocre QB talent doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I beg to differ.

Realistically, they were the same player coming out of college. Alex should have been the #1 pick and Geno shouldn't be either. Alex got thrown to the wolves and his career took a downwards spiral until he found a head coach that wasn't a reerun who thought that QB was "just another position out on the field." Since then, he's played more like the guy everyone thought he could be when he entered the league. I feel like he'll only keep improving under Reid.

Danny Clinkscale just summed it up perfectly, even though he didn't mean to:

There was nothing ENTERTAINING about last year. They are going to play some ENTERTAINING football next year and get some competent QB play.

That's all Chiefs fan want. Entertainment and competetence. EXCELLENCE is optional.
