Fantasy Football Advice Needed

I am in the midst of my first draft this year, and I got stuck with the dreaded 1st pick. I took Peyton Manning at #1, with the idea that there would be quality RBs available at #20 and #21. I had my eyes on Clinton Portis and Ahman Green, but both of them got picked right before me. Now I need some help on who to take now that those two are gone. Here is who has been drafted so far:

3. Shaun Alexander
4. Priest Holmes
5. Randy Moss
6. Daunte Culpepper
7. Baltimore's D
8. Willis McGahee
9. Jamal Lewis
10. Donovan McNabb

3. Marvin Harrison
4. Kevin Jones
5. Tiki Barber
6. Ahman Green
7. Clinton Portis
8. Torry Holt

Right now I am thinking about Julius Jones and Domanick Davis, but I am also considering Corey Dillon, Rudy Johnson, Lamont Jordan, Tatum Bell....really, any RBs that have a chance to put up some big #s. However, since so many RBs have been taken, i'm wondering if I should take a stud WR or two. Anyone got any advice for me? I need to make these picks by tonight.

Yep. I agree with this wisdom. It's not so much that the RB's are big point scorers, but there is a marketable drop after your first 6-8RBs.

When it comes to QB's, there's maybe 1-3 QB's who score a lot of points, but everyone after that is not too far behind each other.

If you grab a stub RB first and an above-average RB second, you still have a very good chance to grab an above-average QB. Most fantasy teams win with this kind of wisdom. Trust me, I know- I've won three times and have only missed the playoffs with two teams and they didn't make it only because of injuries to my starting players.

I just took Domanick Davis with my 1st pick...

I have been going back and forth with Dillon and J. Jones. Dillon seems solid, but who knows how he will work out with a new offensive coordinator. I also think he will fight to get touches in the offense this year. Jones ended last year on a tear, but the addition of ATrain for goal line situations scares me (as does his durability issues).

I am now considering taking a stud WR with the next pick, but I am a little scared that I will be hung out to dry on the RB situation by the time I pick again (40 and 41). What should I do? Man, this sucks, I have no idea what to do.

I think I'd still take another RB with your next pick.

So you've got one QB and one RB? I'd go with another RB before I even think about WR. THe worst thing you can do is panic when other people start taking the Marvin Harrisons and Randy Moss' off the board.

I really have reservations about Dillion.
I'd still go JJ.

Then take Blaylock at the end of the draft.

I went with Jones. I have a feeling I am going to live or die by this pick. Parcells better not get cute by using ATrain in goal line situations.

my advice?

NEver draft your fantasy team before camp even starts, or you'll end up with 3 Ricky Williams' on your roster

this is just a league with friends, I plan on joining a couple other leagues once the season gets closer.

I'm late here, but I would have been tempted to pull the trigger on Julius Jones then Terrell Owens. Owens will play...I don't buy that he'd sit one bit. It would have been against conventional wisdom, but I would have been very tempted. Then I'd have gone RB/RB with the next two picks.

I have always drafted between 8-12th.. and that strategy sucks for the bottom drafters... There is no reason to follow the standard draft charts for all positions... If you follow that and everybody is a good drafter in your league you will always be second-tier... As for surprising surfaces for players, depends how quick you are at the gun and your waiver position... If I am in a non-keeper league and no top ten back is available I am going to take either dante or manning and then moss or TO, I will get my mid range back in the third, then grab either another good WR(if available) or Tony G if available... if none of this is there then I grab the best running back.. draft a D between 8-12 rounds and kicker always last... the other rounds take best available for your misses..

Out of my four leagues I do a year I usually average two championship games, now granted I have only won one time in about twelve tries, I still Eagle my way to the big game...

Oh, and what was your reasoning for not drafting LT first????? And also show the teams of the 4th and 2nd pick teams... they seem to be drafted good from their spots...
