10 things we need to do to win 8 or 9 games

1) Sign a guy like Jeff Garcia or another vet to backup Cassel and to take over by the 3rd or 4th game when Cassel is still struggling. At least someone that can legitimately challenge for the starters role and push Matt. A guy like Garcia could stopgap next year too, if we decide to take a QBOTF.

2) Start Studebaker, the kid has made big plays whenever he gets a chance to play. Whether it be in coverage or in the pass rush, the kid makes plays and is young enough to become a true difference maker. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get double digit sacks if he is able to play starter time. That is just as a pass rusher, he is also solid against the run and has shown to be pretty good in coverage as well, I think he can be just as good as Vrabel was in his prime...if not better.

3) Keep DMC on the field and shift him around like Al Saunders used to do all the time with Tony G to get advantageous mismatches. Whether it be a linebacker, safety or corner covering him, there is gonna be a mismatch we can take advantage of.

4) Start DJ, Belcher and Shaun Smith as the middle triangle. They may not be great, but they are upgrades over what we trotted out there last year and have a lot of room to grow in this system.

5) Get a decent player to start RT from the final cuts. We have nobody that can play effectively there for a whole year and not give opposing teams a place to attack. Or give a call to sister ****er...

6) Pull out all the stops to score early in games and force teams to pass more, with our secondary and pass rush potential we can be a opportunistic defense if teams are forced to put the ball in the air frequently against us. If teams get up early and are able to pound the rock against us, it will spell trouble for us early and often.

7) Start Casey Weigman at center. The difference between him and Rudy is night and day. Rudy should be moved to guard and we should try to fill the spot with a long term answer sooner rather than later. Casey aint no spring chicken, but he should be good for this year.

8) Let Jamaal Charles and DMC get involved in gameplans early and often, this can go a long way towards #6 coming to fruition. Making teams take those weapons away will leave some pretty good players (Moeaki, Chambers, Bowe, Horne) open or at least single covered.

9) Keep Kendrick Lewis on the field, I really like this kid. He seems to have a good nose for the ball and is a great blitzer. Seems to play much faster than the times he put up in workouts, doesn't he....

10) Start Moeaki and pray he stays healthy. The kid may have been credited with a drop on the interception, but the effort he put into trying to catch that ball is what he is all about. If we can find someone to get him the ball on time this kid will shine, trust me. He can get us over 500 yards and 5-7 touchdowns every year ihcsh and we have a real quarterback. The kid showed he can block effectively and if he can stay on the field for both the run and pass, that makes it increasingly hard for opposing teams to account for him all the time. This is a big reason why he flourished in college when he was on the field.

I could probably add in another 5 (or more) things...but if those ten things happen, I think we have a chance at .500 or maybe a game above that.

If Cassel is our starter all year, I dont see us winning more than 6 games.

By my count there are, at minimum, 873 things we need to do to win 8 or 9 games.

I must be averaging up, or something.

We should have just kept Thigpen, and then #1 wouldn't be talked about. Thigpen is similar to a young Jeff Garcia. Plus he can play WR.

I'm have been all for bringing in Garcia all offseason Especially since he would take the minimum and Palko is worthless. What do you have to lose?

Davis I could go for. Don't know much about Magee.

I like the way Nate Davis plays, but there have been a bunch of reports that speak negatively of his work ethic and dedication to the sport. Id take him as a #3 though in a heartbeat.

Boss had thrown out an idea for Rosenfels. I like that. I like Tarvaris Jackson. I like any player currently wearing a Packers' uniform. There are people who can be had for the right price (or Page).
Sage Rosenfels (stopgap starter that would beat Cassel out from day one and be a great backup if we draft a QBOTF in the next draft...he would also allow us to draft for the strength of the next draft (wr) and wait to draft a guy like Luck/Barkley in the 12 draft if we chose to do so..depending on who comes out next year at the position)
Tarvaris Jackson (only as long term backup/change up player)
Tyler Thigpen (see Jackson)
Jeff Garcia (short term replacement/stopgap)
Nate Davis (developmental guy and solid #2 or #3)
Brian Brohm (I have like this guy since college and I know he isnt a perfect prospect, but he has shown good improvement since entering the league as a guy that could have been a first rounder. He could be a diamond in the rough IMO)

Im sure I missed someone, but those are the guys I would take on this team right now that I think would be a good fit for what we need.

Don't people mistake his(davis) learning disability for a poor work ethic?

unfortunately for him, they go hand in hand at this level of the sport. It sucks he was dealt that hand, but he should be putting more into overcoming it.

Here is a telling read about Davis, it can be taken in many ways and is a worthwhile read for anyone interested in the specific player.

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakam...ers-qb-enigma/

At this level you need to be taking every opportunity to better yourself and it would seem that he didnt decide to turn that part of his game on till camp.

1. Cassel is the stop gap.

2. Like Studebaker, Move Vrabel into the middle..... sorry he's better than DJ.

3.Seriously? yes teams wont bring a 3rd CB in to cover him. True he gives an advantage if lined up on a safety or LB.... but teams will bring in a 3rd CB when he is in.

4. get over DJ. I hate Vrabel.....but if DJ plays ahead of him.... you think we should give DJ 6 yrs to prove himself, but Cassel only gets 16 games? ... all the ability but shit for a heart. LB that hates contact.. no thanks. and thats not changing. Cassel short leash...but DJ a longer one? after 5 yrs.... he is what he is..

5. But Richardson started, he's good, he deserves to start. Never mind the 4 or 5 plays he allowed trent Cole to go unblocked. Who needs to block Trent Cole?

6. no one has every thought about that... you're breaking new ground.
7. I agree

8. Have we thrown a pass on 3rd and short this preseason? we are going to be a running team..... its building a mindset that we will be more physical than you.

9. agree. Lewis should be the starter opposite Berry

10. ok

I think I was the first poster to mention moving Vrabel to the middle...even before the Chiefs did so in nickle during otas

there arent many 3rd corners that will be able to cover DMC...the kid is lightening.

DJ hasnt avoided contact this PS, it did change this offseason, watch tape to verify.

LOL @ 5 you got a chuckle out of me.

1. Run game.

2. Defense.

not worried about Cassel , the WR's or the Oline. Isn't that different.

Pretty sure Trent blocked himself a few times, just to see what it was like. I too want DJ to resemble a 1st rd pick after 5 yrs in the league.... but just dont see it. He's too blockable. We havent really seen DMC in the slot, without really challenging teams downfield.... teams will chip him with a LB and allow the 3rd corner to pick him up. I like DMC, preseason hasnt shown really how the Chiefs will use him. By design? but then isnt bitching how we are playing silly?

Interesting stat.

Sage Rosenfel has attempted 562 passes and has been sacked 19 times in his career.

Matt Cassel has attempted 1048 passes and has been sacked 93 times.

I would like to see us trade for Rosenfel and draft a legit QB prospect. Yeah, we could theoretically use Cassel for a stopgap role, but I don't believe he has the mental makeup to deal with an imminent replacement in the shadows.

No, Rudy started against Philly. Weigmann came in in the 2nd quarter, and thats when the O Line looked better. If Weigmann's not starting against SD, I will be baffled.
