They were sarcastic because the very notion of someone actually developing the area around the sports complex is absurd.

A baseball stadium is an anchor venue which hosts massive events 80 to 90 days per year. Instead of harnessing the economic potential of 2,000,000 people into an area where they might want to engage in revenue generating activities while enjoying a full entertainment experience, we point them towards the middle of nowhere where they park their cars, go directly into the stadium, immediately return to their cars after the game, and leave the area.

I haven't been out there in a long time, but for crying out loud, if I recall correctly the only restaurant out there is a Denny's or something.

Actually, the restaurants inside the stadiums are open during the off season, and are rented out for weddings and events and such.

Hi-Boy's, Dixon's Chili and Gates BBQ are fairly close to the sports complex.

Raytown is within sight of the Sports Complex, but the stadium is in KCMO. Very close to the stadiums, Raytown, Independence and KC borders all meet.

Aside from the booing, MLB must have loved our production of the ASG. Sold out the futures game, fanfest was huge, the parade was packed, and the HR Derby and ASG looked terrific and were filled with passionate baseball fans, who were not just out there to be in the social spotlight or be part of the social elite.
