Who is your favorite guitarist?
Accept no substitutes. I love an astonishingly high percentage of his music. I can't say that about every artist in my collection.

Oops....
Did you say favorite guitar or favorite guitarist? I have several throughout the history of my life (I've been playing since I was four). In chronological order: 1. My Dad (He's in the Kansas Music HOF & the Rockabilly HOF). 2. Clapton in Cream and not beyond D&D. He's been a "Pop" star since 1973. Yuck. 3. Ritchie Blackmore. Not "SOTW" but "Highway Star". And "Gates of Babylon" with Rainbow. 4. Tony Iommi - The godfather of heavy metal 5. Peter Frampton. Coolest dude, ever, coolest guitar, amazing player 6. Alex Lifeson. Texture, texture, texture. Tone, not so much 7. George Benson. Mr. Cool. 8. Al Di Meola. Great player but "limited". I did a few guitar clinics with him and he's a super guy. 9. Randy Rhoads. Terrible timing, great songwriter, innovator. The guy played ahead of the beat too much for my liking. 10. Yngwie. One listen to the "Steeler" record was all I needed to begin shredding in 1983. Finally! 11. Gary Moore. Whether it be all out badass playing like "White Knuckles" or "Power of the Blues", the guy is a SERIOUS MFer. 12. Joe Satch. 'Nuff said. 13+ albums, amazing player, amazing songwriter - probably the finest guitarist to ever grace this planet. Honorable Mention: Buddy Guy, Albert King, Freddie King (SRV's biggest influence), Jimi Hendrix (IMO, more of a stylist/songwriter/talent MFer than pure guitar), Jeff Beck (especially the first two Beck Group records-awesome) Don Felder, Steve Lukather, Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, George Lynch, Brad Gillis, Jeff Watson, Jake E. Lee, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson and recently, Derek Trucks. You probably notice that I didn't mention Angus Young or Eddie Van Halen. I love BOTH of those guys but they didn't do anything to make me go WOW. Yes, even Van Halen. I dug the band, not his wanking. Neither did Steve Howe, though I love YES. Or Jimmy Page. Page was in a great band and was a great producer but he was the 5th runner up (Beck, Hendrix, Clapton, Townsend (yes, Townsend) then Page) in that decade. And his playing, while tasteful, is rudimentary at best. |

So do you make enough noise so Eva has to come over to tell you to turn it down?
