Growing tobacco versus marijuana
The first retail marijuana places will open up on January 1st here in Denver. I think they're mostly moving into old Blockbuster and Kenny Rogers Roasters locations.
Anyway, the latest debate is production. They've got big warehouses now that are growing the stuff commercially, but apparently people can also grow their own, and the debate now is the limit (now set at 6 per person and 12 per household as of last night): http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_24...lants-no-front It got me wondering, though. What's the advantage in growing it yourself? Is it just cheaper? And if it's cheaper, why don't people grow their own tobacco for cigarettes? You never hear about people growing their own tobacco. |

legalize it and let people grow it. Simple as that.
I'm glad states are finally come around to this concept.

tobacco: my great uncle and his mother used to raise it in somo. they just twisted it up in plugs and chewed it. yeah, grandma too.
if weed was legal to grow, i'd do it. had pretty good luck 35 years ago, but it took awhile to get good at it. for me, 1 good plant = 3 years of smoke. but, you had to take care of it...pull the males...water, fert, and hope that when you check it around the first of October you don't find it ripped from the ground and stolen. ![]() it just made me too paranoid i'd get busted...not worth worrying about it all the time. got married, family, job...I just said **** it. sec

Popular cigarettes are a blend of different tobaccos. You can buy a carton's worth of loose tobacco for under $10.
Growing your own weed can be cheap, but it takes over two months and your average Joe is going to have a hard time growing retail grade pot in there closet unlike with say beer making. |

not to be nit picky, but that's the thing about prohibition -- the state loves it and eventually the people overturn such nonsense using state ballot system. alcohol prohibition was upheld by the state until citizens began what is now known as "jury nulification" which overturned the judical system's penchant for "crime stopping" at the expense of it's own citizens lives.

Jesus guys... a dime is 3.5 grams (also called an eighth), quarter is 7 grams, a half is 14 grams, an oz. is an ounce or 28 grams, and a lid is a pound. Never heard of a dime lid.

A "lid" is 1/8 of an ounce. It came from the practice of storing weed in Prince Albert tobacco cans.
A can could hold an entire ounce. Just the lid held almost perfectly 1/8 of an ounce, so an eighth was a "lid". Back in the day, a lid cost $10 and was thus referred to as a "dime lid". |

In the 60's, you could buy an ounce for $10. That was a dime bag. A half an ounce was a "nickel". During the 70's, the fad of using cans caught on for a while and of course, the price also went up. I explained the origin of the term lid in my previous post. |

The "lid" is a unit of volume. The "dime" is a unit of cost. |
