Yeah. Nobody in the SEC is any good because all of the other teams in the SEC are so good.

Maybe you're right. The SEC is clueless. Might as well just let them wallow in shitty football caused by their unique sense of solidarity...

Yeah, the results kinda speak for themselves at this point.

Just got done congratulating all my FSU buds on their 'latest' championship. They were of course chided by all my Florida fans because they've won 3 in the last 10 years (2 basketball, 1 football).

Talked to my neighbors from Boston about this as well. I'm surrounded by success while it eludes my teams.

I think the kids have the right idea. Just go w/the coolest uni's or the top teams and be done with it. I used to feel proud to go against the grain. Now I think I'll bandwagon it.

Go Noles! Go Gators! Go Patriots! Ah hell no to the last one.

Yes, some of us were watching it last night and mentioned it during the game. I agree, it was outstanding. Kevin Sumlin in particular was impressive.

If Florida is eyeing some top recruits and they decide to go to Auburn or Alabama instead because they win the title, that directly hurts the individual team.

It doesn't do Florida a whole lot of good to lose out on some recruits to another SEC team because the other team recently won a title or big game. I don't think the coaches would find much comfort and say, "well it sucks we couldn't get the guy, but at least he will be on another SEC team so he can beat our brains in for the next three years."
Nice narrative, but no. Florida recruits nationally and against Bama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia and will against those schools no matter what. They also recruit against FSU, USC, Ohio state, Michigan, etc. and it helps against those schools and reduces the pool a bit.

There is a direct correlation in college football between money spent and winning. Conference success = more $$ for My school = more winning for my school.

And from a 2014 prospect:
Quote:
Prince has the size and skill to warrant such statement. Rivals ranks the 6-foot-5, 295-pound five-star prospect No. 2 at his position and 10th overall.

He earned more than three dozen offers during his recruitment but is down to five finalists — Florida, Florida State, Maryland, Miami and South Carolina.

Prince gained interest in the Gators recently after their offensive line struggles in 2013. He has developed a strong relationship with UF coach Will Muschamp, who is personally recruiting him.

“Coach Muschamp is a great coach,” Prince said. “I like the fact that he’s honest. Even though he’s got assistant coaches, he still takes the time to make phone calls to me.

“I think he’s going to hire a great offensive line coach just like he did for offensive coordinator (Kurt Roper). I’ve watched Duke play, and I enjoy their style of offense.”

Prince took official visits in November to Florida State and Maryland, two schools that have been considered his leaders for a while. This month he will take trip to South Carolina (Jan. 17), Florida (Jan. 24) and Miami (Jan. 31) before making his decision on Feb. 14.

Prince insists the Gators have a legit shot at him.

“I wouldn’t go down there if they didn’t,” he said. “They just went 4-8 and they don’t have a coach at my position right now, but yet I’m still going to visit them. That should tell you something.

“But other than this season, they won a lot of games over the years. They’re in the SEC, which is a plus. But I just see an opportunity for me to come in and play as a freshman, which is big for me.”
But keep plugging your fingers in your ears and closing your eyes...

He was the most impressive to me as well. It seemed the other coaches were almost deferring to him at times as their leader.

It's bizarre to me that people still bother to argue this point...now that they have the benefit of hindsight with overwhelming results. It's like trying to argue that Ryan Leaf would have been the better pick.

I would love to bet on sports against people like this. You could gamble on games that have already been played, and they would still pick the wrong team.

Of course they did, he's a head coach in the SEC.

So it's a good thing when a top recruit chooses another school over yours because this other school got a big win? A win you were cheering for because of conference affiliation? Got it.

Let me know what team you root for, and I'll check into how many national titles they have won lately to see which method works better.

It's not at all like that. Manning is vastly superior to Leaf whereas the SEC isn't vastly superior to the other conferences. Are they better? Of course they are, but the margin is far smaller than you believe it to be.

A better analogy is arguing Peyton Manning is better than Phil Rivers. He is, but the margin isn't enough where Rivers can't beat him on the field a decent percentage of the time.

There is no one-to-one analogy. At this point, it's the SEC versus the field...and the SEC usually wins.
