Harbaugh has been winning because of a dominant run game and top 3 defense. Justin Smith's age is going to catch up to him sooner or later, Whitner will be gone, Rogers will be gone, Ray Mac is already slowing down, Gore is slowing down, Boldin will likely be gone as well, etc. Kaepernick is clearly not a QB who can be relied on to carry the team and win and if the 49ers are dumb enough to sink some major money into him, then they are done, lol.

I think it's a done deal. They let Smith go. There is Kaepernick, Colt McCoy, and McLeod Bethel-Thompson. Unless they make a play for a top guy in the draft, I think they're paying him.

Maybe they want to give us 2 seconds for Chase Daniel

Would you take 2 seconds for Alex Smith?

The impact Smith has after he starts missing a step on Aldon will be huge...

He's been in the same system for 3 years now and has shown pretty much no growth as a passer at all. Highly doubt that is going to change.

Let dudes walk? "No problem," say the 49ers... we've got extra picks in the draft to fill those holes.

Replacing Justin Smith? Anquan Boldin? Yeah, that'll be easy to do.

At his age, there is no guarantee that he will perform at the same level next season.

Their draft history is hard to sustain over time.

Also, they may have kept the wrong QB.

Alex Smith has actually won in Seattle before, Kaepernick has been blown out twice and only came close in this playoff game. Put Alex Smith in that situation and I guarantee you he takes the out to VD or Patton to gain more yards and live another down or hits Boldin in the seam for a TD instead of trying to force it over a 6'3" corner who happens to be the best in the league at what he does.

Krap had just forced a throw over a DB who had good coverage, earlier in the game on the TD to Boldin.

I think everyone in the world thought "this'll be an INT" when he released the ball, but in that case the throw was absolutely perfect, so he got away with it.

But that pass could have easily been picked as well, and it was the same mistake - trying to get the ball to a receiver over a defender who is in position to make the play. Sure, it CAN work, but the throw has to be perfect, and you won't make a perfect throw every time. A man's got to know his limitations.

Or he needs to be intelligent enough to read defenses and go through his progressions... Instead of reading one target and throwing into tight coverage regardless
